    Covid-19 and linagliptin

I have been Type 2 for 10years. I've just read the article on diabetes.co.uk reporting the research by Dr Gianluca Iacobellis in Miami into the treatment of Covid-19 using drugs used in type 2 control such as Linagliptin. During the first week of February when Covid-19 was something which...

Does anyone else feel hypo type symptoms when high?

The tricky bit comes at work when I get that "just have to sleep" feeling...it's horrendous!

Does anyone else feel hypo type symptoms when high?

So glad I've seen this post. I'm T2 but as soon as I hit 12 or more I get the sort of symptoms you all describe especially the confused tiredness. Its so irritating when I'm doubted by the medics who seem to think its not worth worrying about anything under 20

The One Thing I'm Concerned About Is Sleep

So glad to read this thread. I'm T2 on Metformin but trying really hard with the diet thing but not in a structured way(but have lost at least a stone and a half). For quite a while I've been waking about 4:30 walking the dog at 5:30 (much to his surprise!) and the other day after walking him I...

    Metformin - does it work?

Seems to work well for me. My levels are more even and predictable and HbA1c has dropped nicely since I've been taking it but then again I've upped my exercise and lowered carb intake so who knows ? Certainly not a miracle cure on its own !

    Beer/alcohol

I love the thought of a medicinal kebab !!! I presume it only works after 6 pints of lager ?

    Beer/alcohol

Our collective wisdom on this topic is impressive. I once read that American or Mexican beers tend to be better the British ales. It may or may not be true but it does seem that I get along just fine with Coors Light and Sol. When I do drink beer it's better if I graze on selected nibbles. This...

    Advised against Blood glucose meter

For me the big problem is that diabetes affects all of us in different ways, often in counter intuitive ways, for example a few biscuits does me no harm but white bread certainly does. I only found this out through buying myself a meter etc. Now I'm on Metformin and I get all my testing strips...

NHS Direct doctor says... NO testing when taking Metformin

I must be lucky I get prescription test strips etc etc and a very supportive nurse. The simple fact is that if I didn't test I would never have known for example that white bread and all such products send my levels over 13 and I fell dreadful. Without testing it's like Russian roulette in the...

Type 2s: What have you eaten today?

Yesterday: after 5 years of diet only control the nurse decided we needed to run up the white flag and go for Metformin after HbA1c went up to 52 and symptoms suddenly getting worse AND she could not fault my lifestyle.. Went home... I had sardines on low carb toast for lunch. Quorn stir fry...

    Weights vs Carbs

Hi I'm type 2 but go to the gym 3 times per week and do a mix of cardio and weights. It always lowers my BS but probably like you can make me starving hungry and rushing for carbs. If it's any help I've learned to lower the weights and do lots more reps. Whey protein shakes (sugar free) fill me...

    Good HbA1C result?

Is 50 good or bad ??? Very good question ! It sort of depends whether it's going up or down. Mine used to be 43 now it's 50 same as yours. I'm told by the GP that I have good control but some days it doesn't feel like that as my BS often goes up around 13 or 14 which makes me feel rubbish. I...

    Worried about my husband's forgetfulness

I've only just come across this thread so it's a bit late in the day...but for what it's worth when my blood sugar gets into double figures (over about 12) I get irritatingly confused. Even very simple tasks like sorting papers into different piles can be very challenging and (it goes without...

"Best" things doctors have said to you

Me at doctors following fasting blood test and HbA1C; Doctor: O dear...your fasting test seems a little high mmmmm it's over 11...I'm sorry to have to say i think you might be diabetic !
