Hi guys, thanks for your replies - @tim2000s I had no knowledge on compression lows so good to know. Is there anything else to look out for to give false readings? This is only my second sensor so still learning!

Somogyi Effect shown on Freestyle Libre

Morning all, I just wanted to share the below to illustrate (what I think is) the somogyi effect. I went to bed with a reading of 8.4 after rising from 6.5 in 45 mins. I did a correction bolus and woke up this morning with a reading of 7.2. So I would've been none the wiser, however the libre...

Hi guys, I wondered if this is diabetes related or anyone else has had this issue so thought I'd post to see. I'm 28 years old and have always struggled with growing facial hair (and chest hair come to that) It's not really an issue other than I already have a young looking face so get...

@tim2000s - From your comment, would you choose the 'Impact Whey Isolate' (23g protein per serving) over the 'Impact Whey Protein' (21g protein per serving) - also would you bolus the same as normal protein (1/2 bolus)? Thanks

    How many Gluco Tabs

I usually take 1 Dextro tablet to raise my blood 0.75. So 2 Dextro tablets would raise my level by 1.5. If I was 3.3 I'd have 2 tablets then test after 15-30 mins. They are digested with 45 mins. I used to drink lucozade but found it difficult to with the correct amounts so ended up going high...

    diet whey?

I've used PhD diet whey and was fine for me! I used as a breakfast when in a rush for work. ATM I'm using 'My Protein' but think I prefer PhD. I have to bolus for the protein as low carbing. I'd use water rather than milk.

    Low-carb diet help for Type1.

@bigboi I suggest looking at the information in this website: http://www.dietdoctor.com/lchf It gives a guide to the types of food you should eat etc. You will need to increase your salt intake during the first few weeks as well to avoid the 'low carb flu'. Good luck!

    Bolus ratio calculations

Hi all, there's so much information in regards to basal tests out there and I've pretty much worked out the correct dosage. (a few more basal tests required) Then I will be moving on to my bolus insulin. I can't seem to find much information in respect of working out ratios or is this just trial...

    GYM & BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVELS

@NicolaN I've always gone with exercising with BG under 13 as a general rule, I can't recall where I heard that from though. When I exercise My blood levels generally increase (I do resistance training) so I need to bolus at the gym. With my evening meal following exercise, I bolus (and correct)...

I woke up with a bad headache this morning. I was 10.2 before bed and done a correction and woke up 4.6 so not a massive swing. I seem to get headaches quite a lot no matter how good my control is - so I feel your frustration!

    Beer/alcohol

@Mattcross83, Hi Matt, this came across my mind recently - I managed to find the below on another forum which is quite interesting: 'I have emailed the brewers of the beers below to get the exact number of carbs for their beers. These are the values they sent back. I've converted them so that...

Life insurance for type 1 diabetics

@Kayhowell Hi, you may find it hard to find insurance being newly diagnosed. There are definitely insurance companies out there that cover diabetes, however you will be hard pushed to find one that covers critical illness as well. The best premiums are with a Hba1c of 7% or under and also for...

30 yrs old, Type1 since 18mths old, becoming a nightmare diabetic

@kwh Hi Kev, I'm 28 and was diagnosed when I was 6, so like you can't remember a time without having diabetes. When I was young I relied on the help from my Mum as she was given all the advice from the doctors etc. I've never had amazing control, with my best Hba1c being 8% the year before...

The 3Rs - a straightforward way to live with your diabetes

Hi all, on the subject of recording data, I've stumbled across a brilliant app for the iPhone (unsure if it's available on android) called mySugr Diabetes Diary. You can record your blood tests, what you eat, exercise, insulin dosages and so on. It plots the data into a line graph each day and...

    Lows especially in crowded places

I get this sometimes too - I start to feel really Claustrophobia and have to leave the store to then treat the hypo. I think it intensifies the feeling of having a hypo. It's a very weird sensation!
