    Hospitality and diabetes

Hi, I'm also a chef, although I've worked in hotels mainly, but same sort of hours. I've found that I had to just go do it, which was hard because as a chef in a busy business you feel like you're letting your part of the team down by taking a couple of minutes to look after yourself. If you're...

    Diabetic Chefs?

Just a little update, I'm using the libre now and liking it. The doctors said I won't get a pump for at least a year because I've had 3 dka this year. Of course I'll be in America by the time a year has past so guess that's not happening!

    Diabetic Chefs?

I've considered it, but the money's better then I've been offered elsewhere and I've also got visa papers for moving to America in which I'd have to change and delay the visa going through, it's a shame, but I can stick it out. Plus side is that I'm picking up way more on how to run a kitchen...

    Diabetic Chefs?

I think that might make it take a bit longer, as at moment I'm only doing 4 readings on a work day. Better on my days off (although they are few and far between at the moment! Just finished 15 days straight, got 2 days off this week then the other chef is off for 2 weeks so looking at at least...

    Diabetic Chefs?

@Jaylee thanks, it wasn't so much of a problem at places I worked before as there would be chefs who smoked so I could just do it when they had a fag break, but where I am now not one of the chefs smokes, they all just work straight through their shifts, and whilst in my head I know that I have...

    Diabetic Chefs?

Hi, I'm looking for some help from fellow diabetics who are chefs. I'm currently a sous chef in a 2 Rosette hotel, and having real trouble keeping my sugars under control because of the hours, the stress and the irregular meal habits as well as the fact that, like most chefs, I have a bad habit...

    Calling U.S Diabetics!

I am mildly terrified of the orangutan that's in charge, but when you're in love :P Thank you Azure, I'll see if I can find it.

    Calling U.S Diabetics!

Hi, I'm a Brit who will (if the K-1 goes through without a hitch!) be emigrating to the U.S within a year. How does it work over there? Do they have special diabetic health insurance? or do you get charged a fortune for your insurance? whats the average sort of deductible you have to cover...

Diagnosed Type1 relatively recently and puzzled.

I haven't heard of that one, at the moment I'm using the carbs and cals app. I'm not sure what risk assessments are in place, but I doubt we have specific ones in place. But I've informed all the kitchen staff in what to do. I'm trying to keep on top of it, but just struggling at the moment...

Diagnosed Type1 relatively recently and puzzled.

Hallo, I'm getting along okay, still having spikes but I've started trying to make sure I do my injection pre-meal using the carbs and cals app to judge how much I need. Had a couple of hypos since, but better then being constantly high! Booked on a tide course in September, as well as an...

Diagnosed Type1 relatively recently and puzzled.

Mainly because I wake up, roll out of bed and go to work. A diary could help, I'll have to give it a try!
