Who is winning this war. The Sussexes or the Royals?

Don't you realise this soap opera is a modern equivalent of bread and circuses and a distraction of the real problems that we encounter daily?

Early retinopathy - a bit upset

Thanks for the information and encouragement!

Early retinopathy - a bit upset

Thank you. The letter does indeed say 'background retinopathy'. I confess to misreading it until just now. Thanks also for the information that it's reversible!

Thank you - that's good to hear. Maybe there's hope for me yet!

Early retinopathy - a bit upset

The results of my eye-screening came today. Apparently I have the beginning of retinopathy. I though i was controlling things quite well with diet and exercise but it seems not. Should I be as upset as I feel?

Petition for NHS to push Low carbs for T2s

I wish you luck with your petition, but I'm not sure about signing it. The main reason is that I've just finished an X-pert course (in Stockport) and the message was very much that we should watch our carbohydrate intake so the message is already out there. A number of eating patterns were...

    X-Pert Course - positive thread

There is also a recognition of the value of different fats, with only trans fats being 'harmful'.

    X-Pert Course - positive thread

I booked onto a local x-pert course with some misgivings, having read the experiences of some of the members of this site and having myself been reasonably successful with a LCHF type diet. I was expecting regressive advice. However, one of the first things that the leaders of the course said...

    Angry! Angry! Angry!

I'm on one at the moment (X-pert) and I'm sorely tempted to answer each question with the word 'dust'. We also have an Indian lady with a rather strong accent! Otherwise, generally positive! I'll start a new thread!

Does anyone find that cannabis helps with their diabetes?

From my own experience many years ago, I'd hesitate to experiment on my T2 with weed. Or resin, as was more common in those days (and yes, I inhaled). For me, the munchies would be my downfall. However, if the desired effect on blood glucose comes from a non-psychoactive compound, I'd happily...

espresso coffee and 1/4 sq of 90% choc/ sweet potato ?

http://www.diabetes.co.uk/food/coffee-and-diabetes.html 3 cups of coffee and a Coke? I assume it was a Diet variety - but that would give you a quadruple whammy of caffeine! I'll experiment with my Nespresso after reading this thread.

But, as someone has pointed out, keep it away from your dog, if you have one.

    SWEETENERS

Truvia contains little Stevia, but a fair amount of the sugar alcohol, erythritol (sp?). It may suit some people. - I like the taste but it makes me f**t like a trooper. In fact, I think all the sugar alcohols do the same thing to me. They end in -ol, as in erythritol (above) and xylitol etc...

Worst GP Appointment I have had…ever

This may also be of interest. http://www.gponline.com/patients-record-gp-visits-without-consent-solicitors-warn/article/1219685 In my view, for what it's worth, it would be a good idea for a GP practice to have a stated policy of allowing recording of consultations, both to save the patient...

Fast remedy for constipation in time for Christmas please!!!

Right, so my shopping list today includes Movicol, Andrews, Milk of Magnesia, Epsom salts, cashew nuts, psyllium husks, ginger and docusate. And a stool. See you in the New Year. Really though - Movicol comes in single sachets and the dosage for 'normal' constipation is 1 - 3 of these. For...

Fast remedy for constipation in time for Christmas please!!!

I regret this is an issue for me too. I find that it's difficult for me to deal with it by diet alone so sometimes resort to medication, either over-the-counter or prescription. I have some Senna and some docusate (one's a laxative, the other's a stool softener) if necessary. Occasionally...

    Travel Insurance and Full Disclosure

I recently contacted my travel insurers (I use that which comes with my bank account) with the information I had been diagnosed with T2. They were happy for me to continue to cover me for anything that didn't stem from the diabetes (apart from the usual hazardous sports exclusion etc.). As I...
