Too many carbs in pizza to give insulin??

Polished off many an XL pizza during my time as a Type 1 (21 years)... I only have pizza in moderation nowadays. A haphazard approach to nutrition resulted in too much of a roller coaster effect on sugar levels..prefer to keep a tight rein presently. Hate real rollercoasters, and metaphorical...

I would emphasise that, although we (as type 1 diabetics) share a number of characteristics, we are all unique - consequently the impact of training can manifest in different ways, physiologically speaking. Rather then offering genericised advice, I will provide suggestions based upon my own...

    Questions! please help me understand

I echo the sentiments of @TorqPenderloin & @Diamattic; the questions belie a true understanding of the nature of Type 1 Diabetes. In short, Type 1 Diabetes is a CHRONIC, PROGRESSIVE lifelong condition that necessitates constant vigilance. As Diabetics, we have to replicate the extremely...

    Diet coke

Unpopular opinion alert... I was, once a diet coke 'fiend' - 6 cans a day... Thankfully, I've conquered my addiction - I may indulge a couple of times a year, but daily NO. Primary reasons I 'gave up' Diet Coke (in favour of water, coffee & Tea) are; TEETH - I value having nice teeth; fizzy...

    Retinal Screening

Appreciate your circumstances - It's hard to quantify a ' phobia', I thought perhaps it was something (eye drops) you had a dislike of, or didn't want to be inconvenienced (by dilated pupils for 3 hours)... Anway, good luck with your appointment - might be worth getting the (eye)docs opinion on...

    Retinal Screening

The majority of people work with computers in this day and age.. The eye drops dont affect you for days; after my last test, I got on the train (london) and went to work straight after. Was at my desk an hour and a 15 minutes after eye drops - turned the contrast and brightness down slightly...

    Retinal Screening

No need to SHOUT!! You're entitled to your opinion (even if it is wrong and uniformed), however please don't offer poor advice to fellow members. I take it you're not an ophthalmologist/optometrist.. I saw an optometrist recently who photographed my retina. I asked what the rationale behind...

    Retinal Screening

Yes, unfortunately it is vital for them to put drops in your eyes. The eye drops dilate (make bigger) your pupils; therfore enabling the Dr to see a greater portion of the retina . Once dilated, photos are taken to look for (retinopathy) signs of changes to the small blood vessels etc.

    Illness and controling blood sugar

I work out 'religiously', too. Control/Insulin sensitivity is excellent when training. However, when I can't train for whatever reason (illness/injury/Too busy) I find that I have to reduce my carbohydrates significantly to maintain some measure of 'control'. So in summary; Lower your carbs...

Can I take protein powder as supplement?

Hi @The Rumon, Yes, taking protein is fine for diabetics, as long as you have no other underlying problems (kidneys). However, important to note that a lot of 'protein tubs' have carbohydrates - so look for one that is pure protein. Also, protein isn't a magical muscle builder. In order to...

    Help with sugar roller coaster

It's easy to become resigned to the fact that your BS control will always be a veritable roller coaster. However, there are a number of measures you could adopt to mitigate, and 'normalise' erratic BS levels. I've been type 1 for 20 years, during which time control has varied, a lot. I...

    Dario - A proper review

There is a current transitionary process underway to standardise BS meter/strip usage (numerous, different meters/strips used across the country).
