    Skinny Lager

Have you tried Marstons Resolution? It’s a few grams of carb per bottle (can’t remember how many) and is proper real ale! Available by the crate from their website, or rarely in pubs (if you’re lucky). Well recommended.

    GI bread in Lidl

I can thoroughly recommend Hi Lo bread. Available from Sainsbury’s and Ocado, and 5g per slice. And - it tastes (and toasts) like “normal” bread. http://www.hi-lo-bread.co.uk/

High (for me) BG on holiday

Hi! Just after a bit of advice if that's ok. I've been doing LCHF for about 2 years and I consider my diabetes firmly under control. BG level rarely above 6.5, good HBA1C, on the lowest dosage of metformin. In the last couple of days I've had consistently high (for me) BG readings, ranging...

Diagnosed with Type 2 a month ago today....

Hiya! You've come to the right place - ask lots of questions here and we'll try to answer them. From what I understand thrush is quite common with diabetes - it's due to the high levels of sugar in your blood - see here for more info...

Type 1: Hi newly diagnosed and clueless! Lol

Hi! You've come to the right place :) @daisy1 will be here shortly to give you some handy info but until then: It sounds like you've got a blood glucose tester so test before and after every meal. I'm type 2, so there will definitely be better advice other type 1s can give - they'll be along...

    Help Please

I was told metformin was for life. I think the reason was that my diabetic nurse wasn't expecting me to cut the carbs and get my blood glucose down to "normal" levels within three months. Most of the people she sees don't have the huge advantage of knowing about this website, and the brilliant...

No lie-in for @daisy1 today then! ;) You're not alone. From my brief time here I've heard people speak about some interesting conversations and advice from their doctors and diabetic nurses, ranging from helpful, to downright dangerous. Whatever the doctor says, if your fasting blood glucose...

Going on about diabetes too much

I tell people at work because I often have to eat on location - and finding suitable food can be tricky. So far my colleagues have been brilliant. :)

Test results - LDL cholesterol up?

Hi all. I've had some extra blood tests done as I've moved doctors (thank goodness!!) My previous results were (mid August): "HBA1C": 63 mmol/mol "Serum cholesterol": 2.9 mmol/L "Serum HDL cholesterol level": 1.0 mmol/L My newest results are: "HBA1C": 32 mmol/mol "Serum cholesterol": 3.1...

    Quick question

Sausages (97% meat ones are good), mushrooms, with your eggs? There are some good recipes for nut-granola (with cinnamon and cocoa) that you can add to full-fat yoghurt if you can't face eggs. I'm fact, I'll go and get mine from the office fridge right now :)

    Newly diagnosed and scared!

Me too!! It's the wake up call I've been needing. I'm not even slightly tempted by cake or biscuits of chocolate - this is definitely the shock I needed. BG down to "normal" levels within a few weeks and losing the weight steadily and surely. Be encouraged!! :)

30, newly diagnosed Type2, not handling it well.

How's it going today, @farfromhomedk ? Hang in there.

    Newbie Type 2

Personally the most useful change I've made us to cut the carbs. Drastically to begin with, then re-introducing them slowly and checking whether my body can handle them. A phrase I've often heard on here is that we should actually describe ourselves as "carb intolerant" and that's a pretty good...

There's a reason lots of people use cauliflower to make all sorts of tasty things :) (my favourite - spicy cauliflower rice)

Type 2 with under active thyroid

It can be tricky to know if you have a spike. Some people have symptom, some don't. I don't really have any (which kind of goes along with the fact that I didn't really have any symptoms on diagnosis). Personally I'd say the only way to be sure is to test. I know what you mean about shopping...

Type 2 with under active thyroid

I'm intrigued about their advice not to do the atkins diet - I've found that the LCHF diet I've been following (quite similar in some ways) gives me hardly any blood sugar spikes at all. I shudder to think how I'd be coping if I was following my diabetic nurse's advice of 'eating carbohyrdate...
