    Living in Singapore with T1D

To my knowledge, dexcom isn't available in sg. There is however the freestyle libre but still quite costly. You can find it at retail pharmacies like Guardian and Watsons :)

    Living in Singapore with T1D

I've T1 and am living in SG. Pumps aren't common here, although I just switched from MDI to a medtronic pump. Cost was about 4000sgd and monthly pump supplies add up to about 150-200sgd, excluding the cost for insulin. Costly for sure.

    Hypos

I get quite a few hypos in school too, what I do is I bring around a bottle of sweet drink (such as Sprite) whenever I'm having a long day or a busy day with presentations etc. So I'd be able to drink a few ml of the sweet drinks every hour or so to maintain the blood glucose levels :) don't...

Type 1: Is It Ok To Eat Chinese

Chinese type 1 here.. Yes you can! What else would I eat then? :( Everything in moderation is good; after some trial and error you'll know what quantity's best for you! I do stay away from dimsum though, those are really carb-heavy! You could also give a higher dose for sweeter/carb-heavy stuff...

    Blood in Lantus pen

Thought I'd share a similar experience.. There was a period of time where i'd see white stuff that looked like fluffy bread crumbs floating around in the insulin cartridge. Called my nurse and she said it's probably body fat that was withdrawn from my body. What probably happened was this: I was...

    Hunch about Chinese...

Thought I would share my experience with Chinese food! My mum is Chinese and she cooks Chinese food for me without any added sugars. My BGs are pretty normal after eating the food she cooks. (I tend to eat brown rice with some Chinese dishes like fried egg, beansprouts etc.) But when I eat at...

    Frustrated!!!

That entire situation happens to me sometimes too!! Generally I think it's better not to bolus for the high BG after intense exercise because the effect of lowering BGs after exercise may set in late like a few hours later for me. Not really sure why but it's definitely not your fault!I've been...

Just passed 15yrs diagnosed, still in Denial

it's great that you are thinking of making a change! Take things slow and steady and always remember to push on whenever you feel like giving up or when things get tough. You can let your friends and family know about your decision to change your habits and have them help you stay on track, such...

Au secours! I'm frustrated to the max!

hello! I'm a student too and Im also struggling with controlling my BGs especially when I have a long day in school. Just thought I'd let you know youve done a great job by taking the first step to improving your glucose control! The next step isnt easy (I know because I'm still stuck here) but...

    newly diagnosed type 1 daughter

I was also always hungry when I was first diagnosed at 17, don't know why but I was eating bread everywhere I went. I think it could have been because I was eating to catch up on my insulin dosages which weren't correct at that point in time, but as everything got better over time, I stopped...

    Why ?

Don't let one reading take you on a joyride to extreme negativity! If 8.3 is bad, it means that your other readings are much better which definitely reflects good effort and management on your part! :) maybe if it happens again you might choose to think of it this way, '8.3 is not ideal, this is...

    Is it my fault

You can't blame yourself for something you didn't wish to be inflicted upon them :( I'm sure if anything, they are glad that someone (you) with a similar experience is of immediate reach to them and they can count on you for great advice about how to manage diabetes!

    Does anyone get this?

Things will definitely get better, this is just a passing phase. don't ever give up!!!

    Confused

When you tested at 4.10pm, your lunch probably wasn't fully digested yet, hence the increase after 5pm. Maybe you would want to check 4-5 hours after your meal instead. If you're using novorapid, it works for 4-5 hours as well so checking your BG 3 hours after your meals might not reflect the...

    Really high blood sugar levels.

He's probably feeling overwhelmed with his new diagnosis and trying not to face his condition as much as possible. I've been there too! Maybe you could try sitting down with him and his family to have a serious talk about his health. Be sure not to be accusatory, but let him feel that you are...

    Increasing insulin

My healthcare team told me that post-exercise highs can occur as a result of anaerobic (short-lasting but high intensity) exercise. I quote from a journal article (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2769951/) 'Exercise causes profound changes in glucose homeostasis. For people with...

    Limit of insulin at mealtime...?

Not sure if this is helpful but my dietician once told me that insulin doesn't behave the same way it would when in very large amounts such as when you're gonna bolus 20 units; it's likely to work much faster and cover more carbs per unit of insulin. I'm also on 1:10 and I find that even if I do...

Sick For the last Few Weeks - Constant Night Sweats

^ agreed, I get night sweats when I have midnight hypos, often occurring around 3-5am. You might want to check your blood sugars around in the middle of the night just to be sure!

Feel like my friends are getting bored with my diabetes

Agreed with some of the comments above that our friends can't really relate and thus it might be rather irrelevant to them. I'm 21 this year and was diagnosed at 17. Since we are around the same age I definitely understand how you feel, also because I went through the same thing. Last year I had...
