    Confused by Diabetic Cookbooks

Welcome to the forum @FranOnTheEdge. Losing weight is very important for most T2s. Congratulations on your absolutely fantastic results. I could never loose weight on a traditional old-school diet regime. I genuinely admire your dedication. I couldn't give up my Cheese, butter, olives, a decent...

Got my first 3 month HBA1c results this morning

I was diagnosed with fatty liver at the same time as diabetes, but most of that fat has disappeared in my recent scan. It seems as if the liver fat does shift relatively early in the process....or at least did for me. Fantastic results Andrew.....inspirational

6 weeks in to diagnosis of type 2

It really sounds as if you are moving in the right direction, well done. For me the LCHF has been a major revelation. Now 6 months after my diagnosis I feel better than I have for 10 years. I walk a minimum of 10000 steps every day, normally 15000. I will also try and incorporate trips to the...

    Salad Hater!

Its funny the way people associate Salad with diets. If you don't enjoy salads, try stir fries........hot salads :) Loads of different variations possible. I just start by throwing garlic, ginger and chili in the wok and then add almost whatever vegetables come to hand together with some protein...

Great results thanks to all here!

Bizarrely my Doctor said something similar when reading my latest results (40).....I would be happier with your HbA1c perhaps a little above that. I just dismissed the comment.....didn't realise other people were being told that also. I wont be satisfied until I am in the low 30s and have been...

    Metformin and side effects Help!!!!

I recently moved to the modified release. Best thing I ever did. All of the symptoms you had I had.....now a thing of the past.

    Discrimination:

WOW. I would expect a more informed view from health care professionals! This sounds not just morally wrong but as if you could have a case for legal redress. You should definitely seek some professional advice.

Lowest reading so far of 5 after being told I was off the scale and needed insulin

@jziggy It sounds as if you have definitely turned things around. Well done. Ring up and speak to the receptionist at your health clinic. They should (once they have confirmed it is you on the phone) be able to tell you exactly what your results were. Its not just obvious sugar you have to...

Diabetic - difficult to find a job??

@Mr. OGU when you say you have tried diets, which diets? Personally I tried the Low Carb High fat diet which really helped. Whilst it is different for T1s I know, I think the key message is to try and get your BS under control some how. For me my work performance has improved by 100% by...

    Metformin - does it work?

I guess if you are hiking 7 1/2 miles a day you can get away with it but that does seem very carb heavy. In terms of the original question on Metformin and whether it works, the jury is out for me. What I would say for sure is insist on the Modified Release or Slow Release as it is sometimes...

    New to forum. Type 2

I thought that I had a gluten intolerance and it turned out I hadn't when they did a proper test. In retrospect, I was misinterpreting the symptoms of diabetes. In the meantime I also was eating a lot of gluten free foods.....particularly gluten free breads....you are right they are full of...

    pre diabetic

As far as Type 2 diabetes is concerned, it is by no means certain that the condition will progress to you needing insulin. Normally I would add a caveat here about me not being a Doctor etc. But whoever told you that is plain wrong, google Doctor Jason Fung and watch some of his lectures or...

    Wrongly diagnosed? / retest request

Its a little concerning to hear that the lab equipment was faulty, but I guess these things happen. I presume my readings have been accurate, certainly no one has let me know if they weren't. I read somewhere Metformin takes about 3 weeks to become effective and the average reduction in BS is...

Carb free but still too high

I love the idea of testing your partner. You must have a very supportive husband. I offered to test my wife's blood sugar and she offered to stick my meter.....well I am sure you get the idea :) I was looking at your figures and thinking how incredibly well you are doing! I get the early...

First HbA1c after diagnosis for type 2

That is fantastic progress, well done. 15kg in 2 months is incredible! Our local Lydl doesn't stock the protein rolls unfortunately. I make my own wraps using flax seed, fantastic. Like you I am also a big oily fish fan.....I find it makes you feel full for hours.

    Pasta,Rice, Root Veg recommendations

I use the slim pasta all the time. You can order it on line from amazon. It needs to be really well rinsed (at least 3 times) under a running tap as it can had a slightly fishy smell out of the packet. The lasagne version is particularly convincing.

    Feel a failure

Everyone on here will tell you diabetes is nothing to feel embarrassed about. But when I was diagnosed, I felt exactly like you to be honest Wend. In my case there was little doubt in my mind the on-set of diabetes was because I had allowed my weight to steadily creep upwards and was living a...

    HBA1C

Well done indeed @chri5.....slightly scary that we need an internet forum rather than being able to rely on the NHS :)

Great results thanks to all here!

I had a meeting with a consultant on Monday basically about fatty liver and told him my Cholesterol was high (at 5.1). He laughed and told me that 5 or 10 years ago 5.5 was considered normal and I shouldn't be worrying about that. He told me the best exercise is walking - I had mentioned I...

@Redsnapper brilliant results. Have you lost weight as well, or was that not an issue for you?
