Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

I have posted numerous times that testing helped me be diet controlled for years when first diagnosed. My GP even asked if she could use me as an example in their medical magazine. I tested my blood sugar prior to meals and 2 hours after, logging what I ate. This gave a good idea of what was...

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

Hi, Exactly what I would have said from ANTje77. Testers have changed a lot since my first ones years ago. I have found a number of free offers over the years but seem to be the ones with costly test strips. Just for info, my current one is quite simple Gluco Navii GDH, test strips fair price.

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

Basmati is best, thats what I have. The old in moderation always comes to mind. Do you want help with a tester? Just that often there are free ones on offer but test strips vary greatly in price.

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

You will find that many people have been told not to test themselves. Funny, for me it was also the time that test strips on free prescription stopped. Well I found that testing myself regularly before & 2 hrs after meals when first diagnosed was good. I logged what I ate & readings & was able...

    Advised against Blood glucose meter

Agree with you. Originally when diagnosed some 10 years ago I would not have known what foods affected me the most so monitoring before/after meals helped me a lot. This kept me diet controlled only for many years. Many blood monitors are free, check around its the test strips that cost so I...

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

I have been told over the years not to test myself & only rely on 6 monthly HbA1C blood tests. But originally when diagnosed type2 I tested pre/post meals & logged everything I ate, this gave me a good idea of what I could eat & what affected me. No Carbs for breakfast but I handled some better...

    Diagnosed on Monday.

Everyone is unique & affects people differently. But I would say too much friut is not good(bananas are no for me) with sugars also coconut can be very high in fat, I have oat milk & seems good. When I first was diagnosed the advice I was given(seems to change all the time) about what to eat was...

    COVID restrictions gone........................

COVID restrictions stopped! How do people feel about this? Only ‘highly vulnerable' people are ever mentioned when talking about testing and people to use common sense around others if they get Covid. WHO had Diabetes as a highly vulnerable group but the government have changed who is is...

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

Originally 10+ years ago when diagnosed with type2, I had test strips on prescription and would have not had any idea when & what foods affect me & to what degree without testing pre & 2 hrs after meals logging down what I ate. A dietician went thu my diet but just highlighted what best to...

FADS - Plant Base & Vegan food

The recent fads of changing so many food product to 'Plant Base' or VEGAN is quite worrying. Being diabetic & also having a cow milk allergy you would think VEGAN products would be good. BUT I am finding many food items I have been used to rely on being milk free & low sugar, low carb are...

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

I would add that with the Covid19 situation my GP practice has stopped Diabetic reviews so overdue over a year now. Usually 6 monthly so some sort of self--testing is vitual.

Have you been told not to test your blood sugars?

I have been some 10 years with Type 2, controlled by diet with a couple of hiccups being on Metformin(too ill to stay on) . Still controlled by diet. If I had followed advice when first diagnosed I would not have kept off drugs. Dietician only said what not to eat not what to have. I initially...

    Coronavirus Confusion

Interesting, I have found the 'Official' recommendations confusing & now very detrimental to Diabetic suffers. Diabetic suffers are at a higher risk, also asthma suffers than the people without these conditions. But the Government has now sent supermarkets their list of ‘Very High Risk’ people...

Mum in law - border line

Thanks for replies, totally non techie afraid, over 70 & never used one so would have to pass on info. Worth checking on skin condition using blood tester, as it was the only way I found out what foods affect me. If I had followed a dietitian I would not have been able to keep off drugs.

How to make a good near zero carb coffee?

Not too bad for me, Carbohydrate 6.5 g of which sugars 4.0 g*per 100ml, & I use hot water with splash of oat milk. I have been a lot better on blood sugar readings since switching from soya to oak milk, not the only change but also better stomach.

How to make a good near zero carb coffee?

What seems to work for me, is decaff Percol instant coffee with Oat milk, best that does not curdle in coffee being Oatly Barista. Loverly creamy taste, I am allergic to dairy.

Mum in law - border line

Appears my mother in law has been told she is border line diabetic, not helping she has already had bad advice by members of the family. We live some distance away & I have been managing my type 2 for over 10 years, diet has been important and has kept me off tablets most of the time. Anyway it...
