Hi Pinewood If you are injecting insulin there is a chance you are giving more than naturally required or you are having to due to higher levels which may result in weight gain. *edited by a moderator*

    Help with my type 1

Hi Ollie, How often do you test? I found even increasing testing to be more frequent a huge help so I had a starting point of what was going wrong...as well as the fact my BG wasn't always high as assumed. This has also allowed me to begin to work out my insulin to carb ratio and correction...

Type one is EASY!! for me.

Does sound like the honeymoon period, but even if it is...you're right it isn't all doom and gloom forevermore!! Remember that most people only share their problems as they need support, and rarely share what's going well! Hope all goes well for you @Tfqleeds

    Work/Occupational Health/HR

Hi all, Having been quite unwell and absent from work I was referred to OH for support. They advised a phased return and a follow up call with a doctor, however, the doctor advised if they say I am unable to do the role they have so many weeks a to find me a new role and if they can't I will...

    Late to the party...

Thank you @TaliseH for posting...if I was to have written how I was feeling your words are exactly that! Great to have started such a conversation which has given me some food for thought too. I just still have the same thought though of "never having a day off" and people asking questions as...

    Flu jab

Had mine most years, may have an achy arm for a while and I've had some cold symptoms afterwards, but much better than being seriously unwell and risking DKA!

    Diabetes Distress

Hello all, if stressed do you find your blood sugars go up quite quickly? Mine have gone from 7 - 18, despite eating and carb counting a meal I eat regularly, giving the correct insulin dose. Thanks

    HELP Hba1c!! Type1.

Carb counting and working out your insulin to carbohydrate ratio is really helpful. If you're doing this, I have found further to this eating a lot of low carb value foods has helped stability.

    Type 1 Breakfast??

Go ahead biscuits are great-either the fruit or yoghurt coated ones. Easy to keep a stock in your bag or at work/school and eat when you require. Not too high in carbs either. I used to struggle like you and found these were the best option as you can eat them discreetly if you were hungrier a...

    DKA & feeling unwell

Hi @sean1964, I have since spoken to a specialist and been advised that standard advice is ketones can be present in your system at any reading above 12mmol so to test at that time. Having hypo symptoms under 6mmol would indicate that you're levels are running higher - do you test regularly?

    Lose weight with Type 1

Hi, Just wondering how people have best gone about losing weight with Type 1? I'm thinking of trying the lchf diet, but wondering what the pro's/con's are, as well as whether there are any better options. I'm not overweight, just looking to lose half a stone to a stone for my personal...

    DKA & feeling unwell

Thanks both. I know it's awful, but I feel reassured others have these symptoms also. I also seem to have lost hypo awareness so now I'm panicking about being too high and too low. I find I worry where people cannot see your illness as well, so to others (work etc.) they think nothing of it.

    DKA & feeling unwell

Similar to you they don't seem to have an answer so suggest it could be injecting technique, however I can't see how that's the case as I've never experienced DKA before. Have you had any after effects? Other than the lacking of concentration etc?

    DKA & feeling unwell

Thank you for your response. My control has been really good in the main since leaving hospital but as you have mentioned, I barely have an appetite. It seems to have been erratic readings before the DKA that helped contribute to it, so was rather hoping that would be a reset to help control...
