Did anyone else take a back step after the diabetic nurse??

I know the "what's the freaking point in trying" feeling far too well and to be honest almost all my contact with the diabetes nurses and consultants has left me frustrated and deflated. Although it has galvanised me to be in control of this myself and not to rely on them for their "expertise"...

    Bruises during the Honeymoon Phase

Before I was diagnosed as Type 1/LADA last year I noticed a few bruises which seemed to take for ever to clear up. Then after I started on insulin and even when I came off the bruising stopped or at least any bruise I got was gone quickly. But now I have noticed the return of bruises which...

    Diagnosed yesterday, unsure which type

Sorry to say this but I was diagnosed diabetic 9 months ago, I had high blood sugar and keytones at presentation, yet I'm still in limbo over which type. Long story short one consultant says I'm antibody negative type 1/LADA another says maybe MODY, a nurse says I must be Type 2. When this first...

GAD results negative and left in limbo

Good to hear things are still going well and I am guessing that the weather is helping with blood sugars as since its heated up a bit my blood sugars are generally lower with out changing anything.

    Sickness during the Honeymoon Phase

So over the Easter weekend I came down with a stinker of a cold, my first bout of sickness since being diagnosed diabetic last September, and I was fully prepared for an increase in blood sugar and possible ketones especially as I haven't been able to do my usual exercise and even resorted to...

    Got my Hba1c results back

I would be happy if my next one comes back at 6.1% as that is what my last one was but I get a feeling it may have crept up a bit as well. Just blame the whole Honeymoon thing for giving us a false sense of security :D

    Got my Hba1c results back

Well those evening snacks haven't done too much damage ;). The question is were you expecting it to be worse or was that where you thought it would be?

    Rowing machines ....Your Thoughts??

When I use to go to the gym I loved the rowing machine because it was a complete body work out. But remember with the rowing machine you are using your knees a lot as you initially push back and then your abs and arms take over. So it might end up causing more problems on your knees. I do...

How much exercise do you do?

I've built up over time and now do two 4 miles walks a week, four 1 hour sessions on the exercise bike and then as I work from home, sitting at a computer all day I usually do 5 minutes with a resistance band every hour. I basically take Sundays off of exercising and on a Monday morning my BG...

    consultant's busy ;)

Thinking positive, maybe you will get cancellation and they will bring it forwards a bit as that is what happened to me. Although after my first consultation I can't say I am in much of a hurry to have another one as I found it a waste of time. Anyway good luck with hba1c come the 14th.

Caffeine causes blood sugars to rise

I have found drinking black coffee on its own doesn't have any noticeable effect on me but with a meal containing carbs and then it seems to boost the effect of the carbs.

    Salad Hater!

I'm the same when it comes to salad, think I have a thing about raw food but that's my issue which come the summer I will confront. I am taking a guess at the etc is vegetables in general and if so I was the same before diagnosis. What I did during the first few weeks as I tried to get my head...

    Success misinterpreted

I can see both sides of the argument but here is something from my own experience When I was diagnosed last year I set about reducing my daily carb intake, giving up things which I loved such as chips and switching things out to healthier lower carb options, gradually reducing things down to a...

Newly diagnosed T1 - efficacy of GAD test?

It was one of many reasons why I walked out of that appointment deflated and why I was looking for research papers or something so that if I encountered the same consultant again I could hand them the papers. I know it's petty but it would make me feel better. ;)

What meter do you have and how accurate is it?

I use a OneTouch Select Plus and twice I have tested with control solution and twice it has read within .1 of the lowest acceptable range. It does make me wonder whether my machine is reading permanently at -15% which is the acceptable lower range of accuracy.

Newly diagnosed T1 - efficacy of GAD test?

@TorqPenderloin Those statistics you got refering to those who do and don't test positive for antibodies, do you have a link to where you got them from as I had a debate with my consultant last time over this and he refused to accept that some Type 1s do not test positive for antibodies

Type 1 diagnosis Vs. GAD test results?

Your case sounds similar to mine as I was sent to hospital with high blood glucose and high ketones at the age of 42 where a consultant said I was Type 1 even though my brother and father both have type 2. But when my GAD results came back and I was told they were negative, don't know the actual...

    needing reassurance

Hi, you will find a few of us in the same boat on here, left in diabetic limbo when it comes to what type we are. I was diagnosed as suspected Type 1 in September last year due to ketones nad high blood sugar along with sudden onset but my GAD came back negative, which is inconclussive...
