    Treats

Sometimes we can handle 'treats' with no major effect to our bg levels. It really just depends on the person. Maybe a whole bar of chocolate would send your levels high, but a piece of Kit Kat wouldn't do much. It would just depend, you'd have to test to see how things affect you personally...

Thanks everyone for your input! I really appreciate it :)

    Not want a pump? Why?

@catapillar and @noblehead sorry to confuse, of course I would still bolus for treats! I just meant that it would be nice not to have to decide whether or not I want to bring a pen on me all the time, as a pump would always be on me :)

Misdiagnosed as type 2 - how common is it?

Right, so LADA and T1 are exactly the same thing with one small difference - the length of honeymoon or not even having a honeymoon. T1s are usually (not always, but usually) diagnosed as kids or young adults. They don't really have a honeymoon period. And need insulin right away. Kids immune...

    Not want a pump? Why?

hi everyone, I've been reading a ton online, and from family experience it seems everyone is encouraging me to try out a pump. Cgm isn't covered where I live, but a basic pump would be. I have to admit I'm hesitant. I feel like. I may rip it out, or go into water with it by accident, and I have...

How long is Nova Rapid in your system?

4 hours for me, and hits its peak efficacy at 2 hours. I take it at a meal or a snack, test 2 hours later and if I'm high, give myself a correction dosage then. No 'overlap' worry, because even though I'm correcting, I'm giving myself the right dosage to get to a normal range.

Misdiagnosed as type 2 - how common is it?

Again, it depends. LADA's can float around and maybe even never hit the 30's until their pancreas completely stops producing insulin. I was in the 7-10 range regularly on Metformin, don't think I've ever been over 20, although can't say that for sure. My AIC had me averaging 9 or 10 mmol, when I...

Misdiagnosed as type 2 - how common is it?

Everyone is different. A lot of people will say they lost a lot of weight prior to a T1 diagnosis and insulin puts the weight back on them. I had the exact opposite experience. Prior to diagnosis, I had put on a good deal of weight and my BG levels were out of control. Now being on insulin, the...

Misdiagnosed as type 2 - how common is it?

Hi @chalup this isn't necessarily true. Before being diagnosed as T1 my GP did a c peptide test, which came back abomorally high. Later gad and another c peptide tests was done, showing that I was T1, gad was positive and c peptide was low. My endo concluded the initial c peptide showed my body...

the hypo doctors aren't sure was a hypo

As @1abRat has mentioned, low blood pressure symptoms are very similar to having a hypo. I've had low blood pressure episodes where I've felt hungry but nauseous, shaky, unwell, headache, dizzy and a little out of it. Very similar to how I feel during a hypo.

Using 2 vials of NovoRapid per day!

Before I was on basal, I was using 1 unit of NovoRapid for every 2g of carbs. I skipped dinner everyday to avoid a morning high. I even bolused for salad. The only thing that fixed it for me was to go on basal. My ratio is still high Compared to what others use, but it's just a matter of...

    Prednisone nightmare

I've read this before, but my DN says it starts to work with hours. Does increasing a dose take awhile for the body to adjust?

    Prednisone nightmare

I need some help! I've been prescribed prednisone for chronic migraines, for a week. 50mg per day. My doctor has asked me to more than double up all my insulin and adjust as necessary. Here's her recommendation: 10 U Lantus at night, 10 U Lantus in the am. 1:1.5 Bolus ratio (NovoRapid) 1U...

    autoimmune musings

I feel like a broken record saying this, but I was diagnosed as type 2, about 11 years ago and only found out I was actually LADA/type 1 last year. So I went 10 years without any meds or insulin. It's very, very rare, but it can happen.

    Is the honeymoon over?

Got my basal added in last week :) it's only 4 units of Lantus a day right now, but my carb ratio is at about 1:4 instead of 1:2. Feels good to not have to skip dinner, just to control my fasting!

Frio Wallet Sizing and Traveling Abroad

I bought one when we went on holiday a few weeks ago. Ended up throwing it out as we returned from the airport. I thought it smelled funny... Kind of like gym socks or something. I've found a case on Amazon that you can freeze and will last 8 hours. I think I may buy that for next time.

    Type 2 Hba1C v BG

I agree, unless a good a1c is the result of a lot of highs and lows. That can happen too.

    How low is low carb?

I would personally say anything under 50g is low carb. Under 20 as @Kristin251 has mentioned, to me, is very low carb (I don't know how she does it! Her self control is amazing). I consume anywhere between 50-100g per day, and I consider myself moderate carb. Just as you witnessed with your...

    Type one and vitamins

Hi @Tylers73 Did your doctor advise you to take vitamins? If so, it sounds like advice to take a multivitamin, but doctors are usually pretty specific. Please get some clarity if it was from a doctor - vitamins and their dosages are very different. If you are feeling run down, and suspect a...
