Is there a definitive answer to this?

Where does it say they have eye disease? I wasn't being insensitive, my partner has extremely serious retinopothy and has had laser several times, so I do know what I am talking about not just from an "I'm alright Jack" stance. Some people need a sense of humour - me saying I don't mind having...

    Menstrual Cycle. 13 yrs old.

I don' think my levels are much different, not that I've noticed. My daughter is nearly 12 (not diabetic) and I am a bit anxious about the whole starting periods thing, she knows all about it but still...I hate periods they are such a nuisance. I think what will affect her levels is feeling...

Is there a definitive answer to this?

I got my eye photo done yesterday and they said sometimes even with good control you can get retinopothy! My eyes are fine, and I am confident that with steady control, they will stay that way. if not, they can zap 'em!

Do I have more than 30 Years?

Wow so many great supportive posts, nice to read! Please Aurlito read Carol's post, it is true you have to accept your body has let you down, but you CAN control your condition an be perfectly healthy, as lots of others have shown! If I were sixteen when I was diagnosed I would be a) scared...

living alone with type 1 - tips req,d.

When you lived with someoen did you used to test in the middle of the night? I was thinking about the whole night time thing recently when I was by myself for a couple of days. When someone IS here, they wouldn't wake up if I went hypo anyway, so it doesn't really make a difference. That was my...

    Would paramedics check a tattoo?

Ok cheers - is that snake and the staff? And is it pretty straighforward font? That is exactly what I was thinking of getting, but I'm quite the wimp.

    Would paramedics check a tattoo?

Spurred by the paramedics thread - would they actually check a tattoo on your wrist and take notice, or would they just think it was decorative? I have had several medic alert bracelets but they never seem to last.

Feeling rough the day after a hypo

Normally after a hypo I feel so relieved and happy not to be hypo any more! It's the nicest feeling to stop being so weak and dizzy and feel the sugar do its magic, I imagine myself in black and white and then the colour surging back. I can see how a bad hypo would drain you afterwards, and...

Any long term Type 1's not needed paramedics

There could also be scope for smaller. less dramatic incidents. One of my previous flatmates, for example, once drunk the whole bottle of full fat emergency coke after a night out, despite being told not to, and when confronted he said "well, it doesn't matter, there's another bottle" Yes, of...

Any long term Type 1's not needed paramedics

Did they really show that? Holy moly. That would be like showing an asthmatic being doused in the debris from a hoover bag. "I can't breathe...help.." "Quick, shove dust up his nostrils..." Honestly, that's terrible. You would have thought if they were going to bother writing a diabetic...

Any long term Type 1's not needed paramedics

Actually I think the soaps are missing a trick by not having some diabetic characters, the dramatic potential is huge.

Any long term Type 1's not needed paramedics

No paramedics yet! I've had two kids, and that was a v stable time really as I was hyper aware of control, and massively vigilant. I did have a blinding hypo in hospital after the second kid though, ended up crawling along the corridor and found a nurse who really had no clue and suggested a...

    something to suck

if it were me I would just get some diabetic sweets from thorntons. As you say, it's rare occasions, they don't really raise BG's much, and they taste really nice.

    controversial views insulin

I would like to know if anyone on this forum, type 1 or 2, has any experience of surviving without oxygen? I know there are seveal side effects related to the breathing of oxygen, such as staying alive. I know doctors and health professionals will merely give me advice designed to save my...

    Spikes after eating

The only way I have found to stop this happening is to exercise after a meal - a ten minute walk (I know it's not always possible!) will stop you from spiking. This is what the doctor told me when I was pregnant, I had a healthy baby and it really really works. If you do this for a few weeks...

    Why am I high?

your post title made me laugh! I wanted to say "'cos you're on drugs!" The people saying 'why cut your levermir' - because of the alcohol drunk the previous night - it lasts longer than just when you are drunk - the liver can't get round to producing sugar until it's metabolised the alcohol, I...

    Painful injections

Butt cheeks are great! They never hurt. I can't imagine doing an injection in my arms, makes me queasy! Stomach is the most usual, though it is really annoying when my t shirts have teeny spots of blood on them where I haven't seen a bleeder. I reckon diabetics should get clothig coupons on...

    Succesful and 'Inspirational' T1's

I know of Darren Brass! There was the show where they all went out on the lash and he didn't show up for work and everyone at the shop was going crazy worried about him, but he got there eventually, mega hungover! I like Miami Ink. Tommy Lee no way, I didn't know that! Or Syd Barret, that's...

Diet Coke ? Not for me ,

I think a lot of the regular drinks like Fanta and Lilt are a lot less sugary than they used to be anyway. I like diet coke, and I don't drink enough of it to worry - like Celtic Piskie says, if you want a fizzy drink, diet is the only way to go!

    typical diabetic feet??!!

Whenever I hear about bad feet, I always think of Paris Hilton - hers are really ugly and claw like! Not really on the diabetic topic, but it is foot related!
