    Pre-meal drop in Blood-Glucose

It sounds like your basal rate is a little high. Have you done basal rate testing recently? Also, I recommend the freestyle libre to see what's really happening. It could be used for a few weeks just to get on top of things maybe?

Help for wayward t1 son who is ready to take control?

I find the 'carbs and cals' app on my phone useful for working out carbs in food, it has photos of different portion sizes. I think a very rough guide of how much to bolus for meals is about 1unit for 15g of carb, but it can obviously vary person to person. Also it can vary depending on time of...

    Drinking alcohol and the pump

I don't bolus for wine. I think beer has more carbs though. If I've had a couple of glasses of wine in the evening my sugars drop low in the early hours next morning so I set a TBR of 80% at bedtime for at least 10-11 hours and this usually prevents a hypo. The more you've drunk, the lower the...

Newly diagnosed GD causing too much fluid round baby-help!

Try not to worry. I am type 1 and had excess amniotic fluid in my pregnancy too. I'm not sure if it goes down with better control , but I can assure you my daughter was absolutely fine and she's now 11! I would suggest maybe keeping carbs down to a minimum while your body is struggling, filling...

    MARGERINE OR BUTTER.

A nutritionist told me if you leave some butter and some margarine outside overnight the butter will be eaten and the marg will be left alone. The birds and animals don't even recognise it as food! (Haven't tried it myself though)

    insertion needle s nylon teflon

I too had a problem with the Teflon cannula ( using combo pump though). I find that if I use the insertion device they are fine, but if I put them in manually, I get lots of occlusions.

    It suddenly dawned on me...

Accuchek Aviva strips are £30 for box of 50 as well. That's in Boots or Lloyds. I ran out one weekend and the Lloyds pharmacist suggested I ring the out of hours service and ask for a prescription to be faxed directly to them. It was fine and I popped back later in the day for my strips. I...

    Type 1 diabetes and thyroid

It could be you've gained some weight due to the hypothyroid? This could be contributing to some insulin resistance? 100 mg sounds quite a lot for a starting dose to me. Just keep a close eye on your sugar levels and be prepared to lower insulin slightly if needed. Hope you're feeling better soon.

    Type 1 diabetes and thyroid

It will all calm down once medication is at the right level. Don't expect it to happen overnight though, the thyroxine is started low and increased very slowly due to its long acting time in the body. Hang in there, the main thing is knowing what you're dealing with. I have both conditions too.

Sick For the last Few Weeks - Constant Night Sweats

I have just got over a 'virus' which gave me similar symptoms. I was needing an extra 30% insulin to control sugars which is unusual for me. This went on for nearly 2 weeks My daughter has it too and has been off school last 10 days and still feels poorly. Hope you've seen doc now and they've...

Freestyle Libre sensor stopped working after yoga.

Thanks for your answer. No, it hadn't caused any discomfort and had been reading ok. I agree that it seems it could have shifted but I'm surprised this could happen just by flexing the muscle ( I didn't lean on it or anything-I'm being quite careful as its new). I thought the dexcom had to be...

Freestyle Libre sensor stopped working after yoga.

I am new to the Libre and was using my first sensor which had been fine for nearly 4 days. Then this morning I was doing a bit of yoga- nothing intense, but was using arm muscles in some positions (like doing a plank and slow press ups really). Anyway, the next time I tried to scan sensor it...

Can you add BG readings direct to the Accu Chek Insight pump.

Out of interest Jkm, do your results from libre always match the combo? (I use accuchek spirit combo-old version of insight really). I have just started using the libre and so far I don't think I'd trust the libre results to do a manual correction/bolus. Mind you, I have the issue of needing v...

    after basal rate changes

Have you done testing whilst fasting to be sure basal rates are set just right? This is essential really. Keep in touch with DSN though.

Occlusions and high readings using flexi cannulas

I'm using the flexi link plus, so you may have a point Hannibal. (I'm sure it's the cannulas at fault rather than the pump itself-I'm using a combo) I may try the ordinary flex links to see if it makes a difference (I've had about 4 occlusions today)

Occlusions and high readings using flexi cannulas

Hi, I have the same problem sometimes with the flexi cannulas. It's got to the point that If I still have high sugars 1hr after doing a correction bonus I just change the cannula automatically. They seem to be affected if there is the tiniest kink in the cannulas. I've tried the tender link ones...

    Accu-check insight

I get the same itchy red mark from the sticky plaster plus an inflamed red 'hole' from the cannula. I find it improves if I make sure I remove the sticky stuff REALLY thoroughly with Lift Plus spray after removal of set. I also use a little Savlon or tea tree oil to the area. But still doing all...

    painful cannula

Hi. I've just started using the tenderlink cannulas. I was using the rapid D steel ones which are easier to insert but I found I had few places where they wouldn't be uncomfortable. The tenderlink IS scary (I still take a while to muster the courage ) but I just plunge them in pretty quickly and...

Camping in france in hot weather

Yes, Frio pouches are great. They don't feel wet on the outside at all. I've used one for a pump as well. Don't expect the insulin to feel 'Cold' though - it will just be cool enough. Also, I think someone suggested putting in a plastic bag - NEVER DO THAT, it's the air circulating that causes...
