    how much glucose when hypo?

how much glucose do you take to treat a hypo, and does it depend how low you are? my son is 11 and we are told to treat any hypo with 15g. unfortunately this can send him sky high! we also find that glucose tabs don't do it so much, but 15g glucojuice can send his BG flying! jonesy

my 10 year old son was diagnosed type 1 in aug 09 and went on a pump in sep 10. last week his football team were due to go on a week's tour in jersey. we didn't want him to miss it, but we were too scared to let him go alone at this age and early stage of diabetes and pumping. our way round...

    infusion set change......

at the hospital, when first getting pump, we were taught to change cannula every 3 days, however that doesn't work on my son, so we change every 2 days. he runs high if left in for 3rd day. my question is this..... when you change cannula, do you always change cartridge and tubing too? we were...

    nosebleeds.....

my 10 year old son has been type 1 for a year and a half now and over that time he has started having noebleeds. these are fairly infrequent and never very heavy at all, but today at school he had a very heavy one that lasted about 20-30 minutes. he had not bashed his nose at all, it just...

anyone use, or know anyone that uses, a DANA-R?

i like the look of this pump for my ten year old son. apparently it's the lightest pump, which i think is important on a kid. also, we really want a remote, so that he doesn't have to keep on putting the pump on show, and the remote on this one looks so much better than the 'brick' that comes...

this may seem like a silly question but....... if you are splitting, is it best to have both doses equal? my son is currently on 7 at night and 3 in the morning. i just assumed it was best to take equal doses and was going to gradually work to 5 and 5. makes sense to me....but am i missing...

so, after months of banging on to our care unit at hospital and getting nowhere, we asked our GP to refer my 9 yr old son elsewhere. the referal took a while. the first 2 letters went unanswered, but we finally got through to the right person. last week we had our first meeting with a...

    chocolate/ice cream/deserts....

my wife seems to think that it's ok to give my 9 year old type 1 son choc, ice cream, deserts as long as it's with a meal and the right amount of novorapid is injected. i think it's ok now and then, but not all the time. however, i need reasons to convince her. or am i wrong and she is...

    quick release/slow release carbs....

this may well be a stupid question. apologies if it is. the other night my boy injected novorapid instead of levimir by mistake. we worked out that we needed to get about 160g of carbs into him to counteract the dosage. now....if i give him glucose tabs or lucozade, i know that these contain...
