    magic wand needed

My son has had a stomach bug since Thursday. Sickness and diahorea. We spent Thrusday night in hospital as his blood sugar was on the floor and he couldn't keep anything down. We thought he was a bit better today but no sick again. So its after midnight and I'm sitting up feeding him apple...

One week in and so tired...

My 3 year old started on a pump last Monday. Getting the night time settings right is proving tough and we're still checking his blood sugar twice a night so needless to say we're all knackered. Erland sleeps right through it all thankfully. I just didn't think it was possible to be this...

    Coincidence?

Erland has just had chicken pox and had it much, much worse than his older non-diabetic brother. Is it just coincidence that he takes every cold, bug etc worse than his brother or can I blame the diabetes for it? Just curious really, as it could just be bad luck. Thanks Annette

    pump harness?

Hi My son is 3 and we are getting a pump for him in August (yeah!!) The DSN suggested a harness for it rather than a belt during the day. Anyone had experience of this? Good or bad? I had a look online but the only harness I could see seemed to be on an American site. Thanks Annette

    a year today

Its a year today since Erland was diagnosed. I'm feeling a bit tearful about it and I don't know why. He is absolutely fine with it all and is a healthy growing boy. We're coping (well?!!) with all the testing, injections and carb counting. Life is back on track again. Hoping this is a...

    log book

We've been using the log book we got from the DSN. I think its from a company called Lilly - frog on a lily pad on the front. On a double page spread it has space for writing down all your carbs on one side and space for recording blood sugar and insulin on the other. DSN says they've stopped...

    Stomach bug

Erland has had a nasty stomach bug since Monday - vomiting and diarrhea. We've had anti-sickness injections three times over the last few days. I think he's a bit better but he doesn't want to eat although he is drinking enough to keep him going. ketone levels are ok again having been high...

    Pump cancelled

I'm gutted. Erland was due to get a pump this month but the NHS haven't approved the funding. It went through a meeting in September and they deferred making a decision till the October meeting and guess what they didn't make a decision. They haven't said no - just don't know. And because...

    Getting pump!

Hi everyone We saw the consultant by video conference last week and Erland will get his pump in November. We've got very mixed feelings about this but I hope the flexibility will make left easier for us in the long term and improve the swings in his blood sugar. We get 2 days training here...

Best way for a toddler to wear a pump?

Hi My 2 year old is getting a pump in November (Yeah!!) What are some good ways for him to wear the pump? He is extremely active and I'd like it out of the way. I had a look at some of the US websites and they seem to offer a choice of harnesses and waist belts. Is there any where in the UK...

    AAH I forgot!

I forgot to give Erland his teatime injection. He gets his novorapid after he's eaten and tonight I forgot. I only realised when his blood sugar was 24.8 now at bedtime. I feel completely stupid and guilty. No wonder he was grumpy! I have no idea how I managed to forget. And the day had...

    Jury Duty

I've been called for jury duty in a few weeks time. I'm a stay at home mum and my other half works full time. Do you think its reasonable to ask to be excused on the grounds that I have no child care? My son is 2 and has type 1. We count carbs and he's on 5 injections a day. My partner and...

    Long Day!

This has been such a long day. Erland has developed a stinker of a cold. Blocked nose, bit chesty and just thoroughly grumpy and miserable. He hasn't wanted to eat much and his levels as a result have been all over the place. As high as 20 before lunch (but no ketones) and as low as 3.4 now...

    Tomatoes - carb content?

Hi Can anyone tell me the carb content of tomatoes? I've looked in my books but 2 don't mention tomatoes at all making me think its negligible and the other gave a count of 5g per medium tomato. Thanks Annette

    First hypo

Yesterday I ventured into town to do some much needed shopping for the first time since Erland was diagnosed with diabetes. He was in his buggy and grumping a bit but as it was his nap time I wasn't surprised. Was surprised when I checked his finger and discovered he was 1.4 he's been so high...

20 month old son - newly diagnosed

Hello My 20 month old son was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 2 and a half weeks ago. After a stay in hospital complicated by him going down with slapcheek, we're home now. I feel a bit overwhelmed although the support from our local diabetes team has been great. His blood sugar is still high...
