    Low carb Tarte Tatin?

Has anyone successfully made a low carb tarte tatin? Have guests next weekend and as much as I love a cheeseboard it would be nice to have a change. Am thinking this would be good - with homemade ice cream (I’ll just have plain cream). Thank you

    Hippeas - good grab snack

Discovered another good grab snack today in Waitrose. Hippeas are chickpea puffs. Sweet and smokin, flavour. It’s 11.2g carbs per bag, not the lowest but for me manageable. The good thing is they actually taste very good. Not much in the bag but if I was out and needed a snack I’d happily buy...

    My latest HbA1c results ...

Had my HbA1c done around 2 weeks ago. Was rather nervous as I spent most of August in France where I couldn’t resist the bread and pasties ... but did walk 10,000 steps every day. Still wasn’t looking forward to blood results though ... But it came back as 5.3 :):) pretty darn happy about it...

    Pana Chocolate

Discovered Pana this week. It's a treat Chocolate - it isn't cheap. But, good flavours - around 3G of carbs per 15g, this is 2 squares and was enough for me as super tasty. Very moist to. 2 squares = 1/3 a bar, and £4 a bar so a treat - but I loved it. Most low carb choc is plain so really...

    Helping diagnosed family members?

So my father has now been diagnosed as type 2. I feel immensely sad for him but want to help. He is rather confused about what to eat - he has seen the diabetic nurse who basically said 'eat a good diet' ... the old Eatwell plate. Would be interested to know how others have handled family...

    Advice from long termers appreciated

So, in the grand scheme of things I'd like to think I've been doing pretty well. I stopped the meds, I'm often in the 5s in the morning. But - it's the relentless of diabetes that is killing me. Constantly checking labels, constantly thinking I can't eat that. One of my main loves has always...

My story appears on Diabetes UK

Last week I replied to a tweet from Diabetes UK asking for newly diagnosed type II's willing to speak to the media this week following a release of more dreary stats about the number of undiagnosed type II's. The interviews didn't go ahead but my story made it onto the Diabetes UK news page. I...

    Low Carb Snacks In France

Discovered these snack packs while in France. Bought from the service station where I used to buy quiches and lemon tarts! Both beef and chicken packs available, I think I preferred the chicken. So tasty - they became a regular while on holiday. Shame they don't sell anything like this in the UK.

    Indian food?

For years we've been eating at the lovely Masala Zone http://www.masalazone.com/ - one of my favourite meals, they do a Thali which is a plate with curry, rice, different dishes etc. I feel like I'm restricting my fiancé's diet so was thinking of visiting before Star Trek tomorrow. I usually...
