Anyone on the Ascend Plus trial?

I applied for the study in November but only started taking the tablets in January. I'm now on my 2nd bottle with the 7mg tablets. I've been nauseous with them and they give me a bit of stomach pain and my stomach feels a bit 'acidy'. BS levels are down and I've lost 3kg. I just can't eat as...

    Type 2 Diabetes and IBS

I've completely given up wheat and don't replace it with gluten free alternatives. I can now take metformin without terrible IBS-D, Metformin doesn't actually reduce blood sugar levels that much, a low carb diet does more.

I cannot change my eating habits.

I'm going to come to the defence of @Sarah69 she wasn't the original poster who seems to have deleted their post. I've been on this forum almost as long as Sarah, so have seen her posts over the years. I have read her problems with food. She has had diabetes for 18 years - in my book that is a...

    Metformin Trouble after 4 years?

Are the metformin tablets the same generic brand? I used to get problems when the pharmacy gave me a different generic brand. I changed pharmacy to one that has the same brand all the time. I can't eat wheat and take metformin, so this could be something you could try cutting out to see if it...

    First annual review coming up

Most surgeries won't give you actual numbers over the phone, just vague terms like 'normal' and 'no action needed'. I always get a printout, although this time they charged me 35p for the privilege and wrote out a paper receipt for the money!

    Can someone please help me????

To some of you party poopers above, unless she is on a med like gliclazide then as long as she has food along the way, then wine and spirits with diet mixers will be fine. For my birthday recently I had a skin full including Jack Daniel and diet coke, white wine and Ouzo and a fairly low carb...

Poll : Pork Scratchings - Love them or hate them

Love them but they put wheat flour in the seasoning and I'm wheat intolerant. Morrisons sell pork rind and I make my own.

Cutting inappropriate blood glucose self-monitoring ‘could save NHS £20m’

I was in the Pharmacy picking up my prescription and in front of me was an elderly man who seemed hardly to know what day of the week it was. The pharmacist was going through his repeat prescription and asking what he wanted to order. He had test strips on his repeat. He didn't order them but...

Living with Diabetes Day - Birmingham

I've been, they tell you how carbs put your blood sugar up and then in another bit they say it is fine to eat bananas. Oh yes and diabetes is progressive. It was an interesting day, but take their dietary advice with a pinch of salt and listen to what is said on here about low carbing.

    Bread

@mojo37 As a Type 2 starchy carbs such as bread, pasta and rice are your enemy. Meat is unlikely to raise your blood sugar. I know which I would rather eat - meat.

    Of all days!....

Batteries in meters are usually CR2032. You can get these in pound shops or on ebay for a few pounds. The ones from pound shops may not last as long, but you can usually get 8 on a card.

    Too many units.

If you are talking alcohol. beer doesn't make your blood sugar go low. It has another name - liquid bread! Just make sure you eat regular meals, don't bother with snacks.

Type 2 help on hb1ac test and if illness affects the result

A HbA1c is weighted more to the last 30 days. It depends on how long your blood cells last as it is a test of how much glucose is stuck to them. So although they say it is a snapshot of the last 90 days, what has happened most recently has most effect.

I am running 2 hours late!

I had two emails, both saying I should put my clock back at the bottom. The top sentence had changed. I didn't notice that it had changed on the second email. The motto is Spring forward, Fall back.

Meter change - which of these?

The Wavesense Jazz has an annoying beep when you add blood. It can't be turned off. Not good when you are trying to discretely test your levels at work.
