    Ever heard this...?

Sorry I haven't been around for a while. Just discovered my husband has been having an affair for the last 6 years and I've been going through a tough patch. Anyhow, I went out with 2 other diabetic friends last night, who have also been going through trauma. So one friend is saying, she's...

    Low Vitamin D

This has just popped up on my facebook page. Don't know how well known it is or what is thought of the link between a Vit D deficiency and gestational diabetes as this hasn't been an issue for me for YEARS! But I thought it might be interesting for some...

    Stabilised BG?

For about the last month, my bg seems to have stabilised at about 6.1. It's always there or .1 different all the time, first thing in the morning, 2 hours after food, last thing at night etc. Do you think this is a good thing or a bad thing? Does this mean I'm going to have to go on medication...

Can someone point me in the right direction...?

I have looked, promise, but can't find a recipe that was posted on here in the last couple of days for no cook biscuits (with peanut butter I think ). I have done a search but can't remember much about them so am not putting in the key words I think. Thanks is advance :)

    Eye test

Just had my eye test for retinopathy-it's still a bit bright in here! It wasn't much worse than a normal eye test. Afterwards they showed me the pictures they took and there was a dirty big dark spot which freaked me out but the optician pointed to it and said that it was just a birthmark-...

TV Programme, "Will my Crash Diet kill me?" on now

On Channel 4 now, tv programme "Will my Crash Diet Kill me?" They are doing the Dukan diet, so I don't know if anyone wants to catch it on +1. Not really applicable to Diabetics per se but quite interesting all the same.

Report on BBC news this morning re: statins.

Did anyone see this? My husband was watching and said that they reported a news item about statins now being dismissed as useful unless used as a pre-emptive treatment. He then waited for a full report but we had to go to work. He is interested as his heart specialist is always trying to get him...

    Programme on BBC 1 now!

Looks quite good. It's called 'Ten things you need to know about losing weight'. It gives the scientific reasoning behind various weight loss regimes and how they work. Going to watch it on Iplayer later! :)

    Nutritional info for alcohol?

Anyone know where to find nutritional info on alcoholic drinks? I had a sip of Crabbies Ginger mulled wine and it was bloomin' gorgeous! I'm guessing that it has sugar in it but I'd like to know how much so as to work out how little a glass I can have :D . Tried googling without any success...

    Was quite naughty yesterday....

After a really busy weekend of running around Norwich, I decided to go out for lunch. Normally I would have fish and salad ( which I love ) but it was soooo cold that I thought 'bugrit' and went for the full roast. I had mushroom and marsala soup to start, then roast chicken and green veg, a...

    Harry Potter film

Watched this yesterday ( part 1 of the Deathly Hallows ) and thought it was good although difficult to watch without the uplift of the second part of the book but I guess I can wait until July  . What I wanted to say was that I was most impressed with the audience. We had an extended...

    Just had the nicest dinner....

Lamb stew in red wine sauce. Had mashed celeriac with it. Even managed a little redcurrant jelly to sweeten the gravy and it came in under 15g carbs. Yum :D

    2 treats

2 little treats for those who need them : 1. Tescos Finest range - walnuts dipped in belgium chocolate. Carbs are 19.6 per 100 grams but there's quite a lot in a 150 gram bag so a couple of the little things are bearable. 2. If you have an ice cream maker, throw some greek yoghurt and...

    Exercise too extreme?

How do I know if I'm exercising too hard? Specifically, I'm talking about a liver dump of glucose. I don't like walking so prefer to do about 20-30 mins of reasonably heavy aerobic exercise, pushing up my pulse rate and getting lovely and sweaty. Now I read on here somewhere that if you exercise...

    Headaches

I've been on a lowish carb diet for about 4 months and everything is fine, except when I started I had a raging headache for about 2 weeks. Now this has got better but I still have a slight headache nearly all the time. Anyone else who low carbs get this?

    First Test Results!!!

Just got my first Hbac test back. 6.5 % and as the nurse didn't put me onto tablets, I guess that's okay, yes :?: Must admit I was a bit nervous but I didn't even have to fight for more strips, she filled a prescription for me there and then. So thank you for all the support, information and...

Anyone else heard of Dr. John Britta

I've come across a blog by Dr Britta which was quite interesting. I thought that his dietary advice for men might especially appeal ( it's called the caveman diet :) ). What does anyone else think? (Blog link removed - Forum Policy. Google for more information)

Low G.I doesn't work for me.

Found some whole grain rice noodles in Waitrose and as my prawn curry was a bit light on calories, I thought I'd try them for dinner. Had 1/2 the recommended amount with a prawn and green curry sauce and after an hour my bg was 7.2. Another hour ( 2hours after my meal ) and it was 8.9. Low GI...
