    Dexcom g5

I have used the G5, as have many other members of the forum:) In terms of getting a CGM on the NHS, you'd be hard pushed to do so. Access to CGM tends to be strictly reserved for those who have extraordinary difficulties with their BG management, typically affecting their survival. If you don't...

High blood sugars before bed every day

Hello:) If you could share a few images of your BG trends, that would only help us get a better idea of what might be happening. Does this happen every evening, regardless of what you eat? Could you give us a few examples of what you've eaten when this happens? Is there anything you do...

Keep going low during the night - help!

The DIA of Novorapid (or simply how long it will stay active in your system) is 3-5 hours. If you're at the upper end of that range, then too much bolus insulin in that injection before bed could be the cause of your hypos. If I were in your position, I'd try a little less insulin with whatever...

Keep going low during the night - help!

What time is your last bolus injection (usually) and what time are you going to bed?

@Robbieswan, there is a lot more to carbohydrates than just sweets. Carrots are carbs too, would you compare them to a Bounty?

We can't just assume that he became diabetic because of his diet though... The cause may well have been his age, it may have been genetics, or it may well have been down to medication he took. Who knows? To say that Steve Redgrave became diabetic because of his diet is a very bold and...

We can now agree that simply blaming one factor (carbs) for the development of T2D is nonsense, that's good. A wild claim which was made by the OP.

Couldn't agree more @zand. But I'm focusing on causes, not what aggravates T2 diabetes as a pre-existing medical condition. Moderating your carb intake does help with the managing of diabetes, both T1 and T2.

Who are you quoting @Guzzler? Steve Redgrave may have developed T2 through genetic predisposition, age or other means. No-one is saying that ALL T2's are fat an lazy. It's more the fact that almost ALL T2's are blaming carbs solely and looking past the other risk factors. Equally, you...

    Just felt about 2ft tall

Hey @kaylz91 - please don't feel disheartened by the company's response to your email. But I understand your feelings regarding being judged. What I've come to realise, and appreciate, over the last few years is that people just simply don't understand what T1D is. Most just think that a T1...

Thanks for the link @Bluetit1802; it made for interesting reading:) I did see this though: "Eating starch is eating glucose, which requires a corresponding insulin response. An insulin response with every snack and meal for years can, in genetically vulnerable people, cause insulin resistance...

I'm contesting that carbs don't cause diabetes by themselves. In that instance, everyone who's ever eaten a sandwich would be hyperglycaemic, no? If you want to add in factors such as eating too many carbs respective to your lifestyle, that's a different thing altogether.

Yes really. Carbs (in our Western diets) are often in a refined state. Refined carbs are often overindulged because they taste good. Crisps, sweets, fizzy drinks, etc. It would be rarer to see someone overindulging on protein or fat, rather than carbs. That is why I said the lines between an...

Someone else who thinks like me..

There are a lot of carbs in the Western diet. But I think the lines between overeating and excessive carb intake are often blurred and muddled. And regarding the smoking, that is harmful and many of the chemicals within tobacco are known to be poisonous. But to compare sandwiches with...

Apparently there are various different risk factors and potential causes for developing T2D, they can be seen here: https://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Diabetes-type2/Pages/Causes.aspx To say that eating things like bread or rice was the only thing that made you diabetic is narrow minded. Everyone...

Sorry @Lamont D; I don't recall asking what potatoes did to you. Reactive hypoglycaemia; I know nothing about. I was trying to ascertain whether carbs, by themselves, caused T2 diabetes with the member I was conversing with. It says in your signature that you are not diabetic, hence I never...

So consuming carbohydrates was the only thing that gave you diabetes @bulkbiker; just to clarify? There was nothing else? I find it unusual how not everyone is diabetic, ill or dead in that case. Your argument is flawed and your use of the noun 'poison' is simply a choice rather than fact.

From just eating carbs? There were NO other dominating factors that made you a type 2 diabetic @bulkbiker?
