Dexcom are refusing to sell any more G5 sensors

Just got off the phone to Dexcom trying to buy a G5 sensor and was refused. Apparently they sent an email (they did not) last month saying it was discontinued and all G5 users would have to switch to the G6 this month. This came as a bit of a shock! Has anyone else had this experience?

Libre, noooo! How could you?! Oh, hi Dexcom!

Yeah they work together great. Just make sure you install "Android Wear" on your phone as well as Xdrip :)

Transitioning from Dexcom app to Xdrip+

Ah brilliant, Va is 315mV and Vb is 307 so there's life in the transmitter yet despite what the Dexcom app says! Thanks very much for your help!

Transitioning from Dexcom app to Xdrip+

Finally got it all set up and working! I told the Dexcom app to pair to a new made-up transmitter ID then uninstalled it. I was then able to get it to pair eventually in Xdrip+ but I have to have "Close GATT on BLE disconnect" checked otherwise it just constantly seems to disconnect. My...

Transitioning from Dexcom app to Xdrip+

Thanks Tim, I am indeed using the Android app on my LG G4. I knew you'd be able to answer my query, thanks very much! I'll let you know how I get on.

Transitioning from Dexcom app to Xdrip+

Good morning knowledgeable folks, I've been using a Dexcom G5 for about 3 months now and my transmitter is about to pack in. I know I should be able to stretch it out a few more days using Xdrip+ and I also plan on replacing the transmitter battery and using Xdrip+ with the hacked transmitter...

    sugars after meals

If I was you I'd harass them until this was resolved. Once they realise you're going to be a pain in their butts until they take you seriously they should hopefully sort out the bolus insulin you clearly need. I'm sorry that you're just being fobbed off right now, I know how it feels and it's...

    Changing food requirements

I'd second what @noblehead said, try bolusing more in advance. You could also look into changing to Fiasp. When I was on Novorapid I had to bolus 20-30 mins before most meals. On Fiasp today I bolused 5 minutes before eating a Subway and Snickers ice cream and "spiked" to 7.9 mmol/L before...

Question about the Libre CGM device.

When one unit of insulin can drop me by 3-4 mmol/L and carb counting even when weighing is generally a bit of a hit and miss affair I wouldn't worry too much about the difference in insulin dose between 3.4 and 4.7 mmol/L I'd probably end up having the same dose, maybe half a unit less as I'm on...

Turns out I still have a kidney infection guys

Sorry, have to be pedantic because I'm a microbiologist but E. coli is a Gram negative bacillus not a cocci. It shouldn't have taken over three months to run an antibiotic sensitivity test, a week is more appropriate. Hope now you're on the antibiotics it clears up. Make sure you follow the...

Aaargh... Pulled Libre sensor off by accident :-(

I used Rock Tape and sometimes also Skin Tac and they seemed to work really well. I've moved to the Dexcom now and so far I'm on day 18 of my first sensor.....hope it's not a fluke....and for that I bought some extra-wide Rock tape and cut a hole in the middle for the sensor, works great too.

    Cannot stop pattern of hypos

If you're using Novorapid your GP or Diabetic Nurse should be able to sort you out with the Novopen Echo which is a half unit pen. It also has a memory function that tells you how much you last injected and how long ago. I agree that you might want to try bolusing for the Rice Krispies further...

    Heart keeps thumping

From what you describe here it really does sound like anxiety. I'm like you, fit and healthy, can cycle for miles, run up stairs but put me in a stressful situation and my heart pounds and I get light headed at the slightest exertion. Try some relaxation techniques, distract yourself with...

Elderly women taking statins have increased type 2 diabetes risk, research suggests

Or....you know....maybe we should look at whether these women are actually benefiting from the statins in the first place if most of the studies are on 40-70 year old men?!

Night Time hypos causing high levels In the morning

It's a thing I'm afraid! It's called the Somogi effect http://www.diabetes.co.uk/blood-glucose/somogyi-phenomenon.html The only way you can see if it's the cause of your highs is to either test a couple of times in the night at say, 1am and 4 am or invest in a Freestyle Libre or CGM system...

Chocolate 4.6g carb in 25g bar

Oh no worries here. I eat a small bit of chocolate every day, I also average 20,000 steps a day, cycle four days a week, have a BMI of 20.8 and a HbA1c of 5.4% and eat around 10-12 fruit/veg a day (mainly veg). Chocolate can be part of a healthy, balanced diet I promise! All things in...

Chocolate 4.6g carb in 25g bar

I really didn't like the Aldi 85% (Moser Roth) and I love dark chocolate, I thought it was waxy tasting with no depth. The Tesco 85% stuff in the fancy packets is good and has a lovely nutty, fruity taste and so is the ASDA stuff. Green and Black's 85% is a bit more expensive but also delicious...

    98mmol and counting...getting HbA1c under control..Advice?

+1 for Think Like a Pancreas If you can get hold of a Freestyle Libre sensor and have a compatible Android phone you could try out this system for a one-off cost of £50. Providing you scan at least every 8 hours you'll be able to chart your blood sugars every few minutes for the whole 24 hours...
