Yeah this is why I wasn't self-funding, it's too much money for me on my student loans :(

Yes, my nurse did say I could use it to check before driving, just to make sure that if it was a downward trend to have some carbs, common sense stuff (obviously). Also that the back of the arm is the only licensed place to put it, luckily I don't have a hard time reaching around there!

Hey! Thank you for the information. I was given the website to do some training on and then send the certificate to my nurse but I'll take a browse and see what others are saying too

Hi all! Not really much of a thread but I wanted to share with some people that would understand my excitement. Just had an appointment with the specialist nurse and told them I had been thinking about getting a cgm or flash monitor as a student nurse it might make things easier and they said...

    Studying (placements) with Type 1

I think I might try some stuff like that, sounds really good and healthy compared to what I eat most of the time (meal deals don't help lol). Going to be at Teesside uni, I'll see what occupational health say on Wednesday and drop the uni an email just in case anyway! One more question, have...

    Studying (placements) with Type 1

Wow thank you for such an informative post! Which university are you studying at? I've informed mine of my diabetes but have not heard anything in regards to any adjustments/breaks etc. I was worried about missing stuff due to unexpected hypos, particularly being late or missing important things...

    Studying (placements) with Type 1

Hi all, I'm going to my occupational health assessment, for the nursing degree that I am starting in January, next week. I will ask them about all this too but I wanted to know if anyone can share any personal experiences/tips that they have from doing placements, particularly in healthcare...

    Pump Advice

I have been on pump therapy as they call it for 3 years now. I started off with the Accu-Chek combo pump system which was a good change to having to inject 5+ times a day. You have to change the infusion sets once every 3 days instead and it comes with an insertion device so all you have to do...

Low/no Sugar Lemon Energy Drink That It's Not Too Sweet?

If you've not heard of it, Gfuel is great. They do a Lemonade Flavour variety. I drink it a lot, you can buy a tub of it that contains 40 servings (powder) you just mix it up and go. It's sugar free and not too sweet either. The tub may be expensive for one purchase but it comes out at about...

Why Am I Wishing You All A Happy Valentine's Day??

So sorry to hear your heartbreaking news :( It's going to be tough but the best thing I think you can do, as you already said is to let her know you love her and you love her too and be there for her. I've never had to deal with something as harsh as what you're going through right now so that's...

Are there any jobs I can't do when I am older

I'm fairly certain you can become a police officer with T1, you just have to demonstrate that you are able to control and manage it correctly so that it won't affect your performance :) This is what I have been told as I applied to join the police a few months back, unfortunately did not get in...

    How do i gain weight?

Right so, I am quite a skinny guy (6'1, 56kg) and no matter what I eat; junk food, lots of fat, sugar whatever, I just don't seem to put on much weight at all. I have a high metabolism I think and am a Type 1 on a pump and I would really like to put on some weight as I am a bit fed up of looking...

    Wiped out

Diabetes really does suck more than usual at times, I would suggest decreasing your basal rate a little and see how it goes for the next couple of days. If that doesn't work maybe try and reduce your correction dose? If all else fails try and talk to your diabetes team and see what they say :)...

    Accu Chek Insight Pump

Woops my post is a bit late but here's my input: Got my insight pump 11 months ago now and I must say it is excellent and has really helped to improve my control :D It's not bulky so it's quite easy just to slip it in your pocket or wherever you need to put it and forget about it because the...

The enigma of eggs & how much carb to allow for

I love eggs because I can make something like a huge omelet and not have to give myself tons of insulin because they don't seem to do much to my blood glucose and they only have like 1g of carbs and I tend to use the calculations for about 3g of carb per egg as that usually works for me, but...

    Sneaky injections through clothing?

I've been told you can do it through thin clothing such as tights, leggings etc but I don't think you should do it through things like jeans, jumpers. Not very educated on the subject but I don't think it would be a good idea because the needle could get bent or blunt (or both) before it has...

Start on pump tomorrow! (Insight pump)

I'm on the insight pump and I love it :D your diabetes team should give you a sheet with all the individual serial numbers for the infusion sets, batteries etc and then when you need to order some more you just need to phone Roche and tell them your customer number which should also be given to...

Thoughts and worries on my new condition

Being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes is a shock to anyone I would assume. When I was diagnosed I felt similar, having to choose the pens etc it's all quite daunting and a scary fact that you now have this thing that's will be with you for the rest of your life. The first few months for me were...
