Hybrid closed loop system eligibility criteria

To be honest, the criteria are straightforward. There is a lot of evidence that supports children and young people, plus those who are either pregnant or want to get pregnant, having fewer long term issues if they have better glucose levels earlier. Over the life of the patient, this results in...

    Glucowatch

I spoke to Afon at ATTD. They're apparently running a clinical study with plans to submit for CE mark later this year. Pinch of salt and everything, but they were happy to talk single digit MARD expectations.

    Medtrum Nano Patch Pump

I've used both CGM and the Nano pump. The positives of the pump are well described here, however, bear in mind that you should change steel cannulas every two days, not every three, because of the damage the sharp tips do. The pump seems to be set up for three days use, so it's something to be...

    Anyone using CamAPX FX

CAMAPS is categorically not based on AAPS. The model it uses is Roman Horvorka's IP and it has never been linked. Having said that, I've trialled CamAPS and it gave me as good results as open source offerings so I don't think it's bad. There's some info on how the algorithm works here...

    Sibionics cgm

I've recently reviewed it properly. Not particularly impressed with it, or their social media presence. https://www.diabettech.com/cgm/sibionics-gs1-cgm-a-deep-dive/

Non-diabetic getting high blood sugar after eating pasta

The typical profile of someone without any type of metabolic concerns is that there is a quick spike in glucose levels, which may go up to 180mg/dl/10mmol/l before dropping back very quickly (very quickly means usually within 10 mins or so). If levels remain elevated above around 8/145 for a...

Non-invasive Blood Glucose Sugar Monitoring Watch

I went out of my way to purchase and test these things because I was convinced that they would be rubbish. Too long, don't want to read? They are utter rubbish and a waste of money. Just don't bother, despite what the viral marketing tells you. If you want to read about it, have a look here...

Final day for comments on NICE Hybrid Closed Loop consultation.

It's going to take a long time. This one has had many responses, not only giving opinions on how the decision process included in it is wrong, but also providing data relating to topics they touched on but didn't investigate fully, which will need to be reviewed. A definite slow burner.

    Duration of action of insulin

It's pretty straightforward really, and discussed in this article. The rapid acting insulins simply take a lot longer to get our of your body than you have been taught. It's all documented in their Patient Information Leaflets, where it highlights that the half-life of these insulins is around...

Final day for comments on NICE Hybrid Closed Loop consultation.

Don't forget that if you want to comment on the NICE hybrid closed loop TA, it has to be done by 5pm today. Follow this link: https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/indevelopment/gid-ta10845/consultation/html-content

    Addicted to data?

If you are finger pricking that much, why aren't you using a CGM? On a different note, no, I don't think we can be junkies on data. As long as we can use it to identify patterns and then adjust around those patterns, it's very beneficial. So, there's data and there's information. And if we can...

Help getting libre/Dexcom for myself and mother-in-law

Actually, they don't. The guidance is very clear. It should be offered to all with type 1, and it's up to the type 1 to decide whether they want it, not, "it's up to the HCP to decide whether to offer it". It's obviously easier, the better your relationship with your GP, but if you ask them, the...

Dexcom One - What's it like in use?

I've used the G6, G7 and One recently. If you aren't sure of how the one differs from G6, I wrote about it here: https://www.diabettech.com/cgm/we-come-dexcomone-sorry-faithless/ The key differences are: There is no Dexcom Share, so caregivers are unable to follow a user; It can't be used with...

    Switching from G6 to G7

What you may notice is that the data on the G7 appears to be more jumpy than that on the G6, that's certainly something a number of us have seen. From what i understand it's because the two systems have different smoothing applied in the onboard algorithm, which results in much lcoser to raw...

Comparison of characteristics of hybrid closed loop systems that will be available on the NHS

I created this table to help explain the various characteristics of the hybrid closed loop systems the NHS is likely to offer as a result of the NICE consultation. Hope it's useful.

Diabetics to get 'artificial pancreas' on NHS which injects insulin via body-worn tracker

There are multiple hybrid closed loop systems that will be available on the NHS, but as an earlier post mentions, the consultation paper has a lot of restrictions. It's worth following this link to the consultation and making your views known...

Change of Bolus Insulin and Having Issues

Hi Michele, if you're seeing craziness without food, it suggests that there's something else going on as well, possibly related to you basal. When was the last time you undertook a basal test? Getting basal right is likely to help calm things down a bit and will allow you to check insulin/carb...

You don't need to do an education course to get access to technology...

If you want training on Libre take a look at: https://abcd.care/dtn-education/flash-glucose-monitoring This is a curriculum that everyone being given Libre should be encouraged to look at and undertake. As far as DAFNE goes, it doesn't, in its regular form, cover either pumping or Libre, so...

You don't need to do an education course to get access to technology...

As per the image, as Partha Kar reminded everyone earlier in August,if your clinic is creating education barriers to accessing Type 1 Technology, they are not adhering to NICE guidelines. They're doing it off their own back and can be challenged on their process/procedure.
