Can a high reading ever be normal?

My youngest daughter is type 1 diabetic, diagnosed July 2016. Recently I decided to do a sort of home glucose tolerance test on myself to get a baseline on how a healthy person reacts to glucose. I drank 60g carbs worth of glucojuice and my too reading over the next 2hrs, I topped out at 12mmol...

Do I need DSN to change a dose?

As it's Sunday the DSN phone isn't on and I'd have to phone the hospital ward for advice, LO has had hypos after midnight last 2 nights, her bedtime levemir dose is 2.5. Can I just give 2 tonight and call the nurse tomorrow or will I be in trouble?

    Trying out different breakfast, thoughts?

Decided to just go with eggs for breakfast, it makes sense after all and pretty much all T1s struggle with carbs in the morning. On waking she was 4.2mmol and we had low alert from the CGM, I give a quarter of a rich tea just to give her a little boost and went ahead with scrambled eggs with...

    Dexcom g4 'exaggerating'?

We are 24hrs into the dexcom and I'm finding it tends to give a more extreme number than the reality. For example the meter caught a post meal peak of around 11mmol but the dexcom says 13mmol, a 4.1mmol translated as 3.9mmol. Is this typical? Will it improve as more time passes and we calibrate...

    Update: cgm meeting

So went for our appointment with the rep at the hospital, they fitted LO with a dexcom g4 on her bottom [emoji28] she didn't even flinch it seemed less traumatic than giving her insulin! They have no receivers and so we have to use an amimas vibe pump for the screen... I feel this is a tactic to...

Argh I'm an idiot, stacking advice

LO came home from grandma's with a BG of 16.9, gave a correction dose 4.15pm, then she had tea just over an hour later which I bolused for as usual forgetting to use the calculator to account for insulin on board. Presumably I need to be alert for a hypo now? How bad is this likely to be...

    Type 1: Snacks and bolus

DDs dietitian told us that she can have a snack up to 15g between meals, how does she not need insulin for this? It makes no sense, if her ratio in the morning is 0.7 and she has 15g that's a unit of insulin surely? If I give her a snack like that without insulin obviously she's going to hyper...

Type 1: Baked beans and toast, late rise?

LO had beans on toast for tea and had a low before finally being high overnight, I wouldn't expect that with the toast and sugary sauce of the beans, anyone shed some light?

Basal quandary for 17 month old

Just a few weeks ago LO was on single dose of levemir, 2 units at 7pm which was causing lows in the night and we started doing a split dose of half a unit at 7am and 7pm. Today her 7am dose is 1 unit and her DSN just put her up to 2 units at 7pm because of highs overnight! How does it change so...

    Mad hour

My 2 daughters seem to have a conspiracy against me, after tea every night they run around like lunatics screaming and laughing, this results in stressed me and panic about DD2 going hypo from all the extra exercise. Sometimes she has a hypo and other times it remains stubbornly high. God I...

    Swimming with toddler logistics

Want take the kids out somewhere today and OH mentioned swimming but the logistics of that are giving me a headache! 17 month DD is type 1, how am I supposed to check her sugars and give snacks appropriately in a swimming pool?! Swimming with the kids is stressful enough for me and I feel awful...

    Cgm appointment

So we have a date for the CGM appointment for my 17 month old DD, just wondering what to expect? Will they fit it there and then or will this be more a consultation? I belive because of her age she will get a dexcom but no one has mentioned a brand to me, I do know it's not the libre though.

    Insulin correction factor

Trying to change settings for DDs bolus calculator and the ICF has me in a pickle! I know it's 100 ÷ the average total daily dose but hers is coming out at 15 and it doesn't seem right. I know if she hits 10mmol and I give half a unit it will bring her down to around 5. Her total average...

Please have a look at DDs graph

DD 17MO is now on split basal dose, 0.5 units morning and night. It seems to me like she needs more? She was on 2 units a day single dose a couple of weeks ago and I felt that worked well during the day but she had night hypos (dose given at 7pm). What do you think is it a basal or bolus issue?
