Might be losing my job after a visit from Occ. Health

My impression of what you say is that this is an industrial injury situation. In which the employer has a problem not you. As for which government department to approach, I am not sure. Your local council offices or Citizens advice bureau should be able to point you in the right direction...

    Can I re-use Lancets?

I'm with you Helenababe. The skin is our first line of defence against infection. To deliberately puncture the skin with a needle that has had blood on it and not sterilised seems to be asking for trouble. The cost of the lancets is minor compared to the cost of the strips.

    Apple controls diabetes

To the people who critisize the moderators, they do not work at it 24/7. They have breaks, meals, sleep etc. Maybe this was posted in a completely different time zone. I am retired and live in a time zone GMT +8. If I posted in the morning here the UK would be asleep. Of course if you can do...

I have diabetes – can I have sex?

Normally the effect is very pleasant, that's why people keep doing it. However it is known to use energy, particularly for the man. If you are T1 as advised, just up your BS before, and then check after. This should give you a guide. You shouldn't feel this is a regular routine, just an initial...

not sure whether I should be offended or not

Firstly I understand your problem. People usually speak from ignorance, not with malice. I have had it previously, and a quiet word usually resolves the problem. They actually believe they are being helpful, simply because they don't know the rules.

    Where did I go wrong . . .?

Dougal it should be obvious from the replies that this site is not just a notice board. People genuinely care about others. We all wish you the best, in solving your problems. Diabetes is a disease that has many facets unfortunately, and the none diabetic will say oh it's just blood sugar...

New and I want to cry

Firstly try to accept it and don't fight it. It is a fact. I am T2 diagnosed about 3 years ago. Try to avoid obviously sweet things but also high starch foods. Your body readily converts starch into glucose ( sugar ). So you need to avoid, white bread, potatoes, white rice. Wholemeal products...

    Diabetic Retinopathy screening

If you don't mind me saying so,stop looking for opt outs, you want the stats to justify not going. Everybody has strongly recommened testing. Remember testing doesn't force you to do anything further, but IF they find something then you have to decide, do you want to go blind slowly, or get it...

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

My latest was 4.0 % Sounds good, and my dr. said drop the metformin ( Glucofarge 750 ) However my FBS has been over 7 sometimes with the Glucofarge. I am totally confused by the numbers, they seem to be in conflict with each other. I have some Glocofarge left so for now I am continuing to take them.

    Appalled at experiments on dogs

Phoenix, the animals that provided insulin were pigs that had been slaughtered for their meat. It was extracted from their pancreas, not often used as a food source for humans. So it was really a by product of the food industry.

Type 1: What are your HbA1c test results?

I am T2, taking 750 mg Glucophage XR, and 50 mg Vildagliptin. My HbA1c has been creeping down and is now 4.0%. My doctor says good stop the Glucophage. I haven't yet ( I still have some tablets ) but my FBS is up at 7, which I don't like, it used to be between 5.0 and 5.5. I am completely confused.

Partner Newly Diagnosied Type 2 NEED HELP!!

First relax, this didn't happen overnight. I am not going to hazard a guess as to just how long this has been building up. There must have been a reason for the doctor to check his blood sugar. The doctor is not panicking so neither should you. In the mean time, yes get a meter and tests...

    Diabetes complications

My doctor has just given me a real downer. My blood tests were showing my results were a bit up.5-6.5. However my HbA1c has been coming down and the last test about 2 weeks ago, was 4.0. So I felt confident when I went to see her. ( I have retired outside the EEC, so I have to get the test...

How I knocked 0.7% off my HbA1c by doing almost nothing

I think anything which gets people's HbA1c down is good. I honestly think though that doctors are limited in their in depth knowledge, and understanding of our problems. I am T2 diagnosed 2 years ago. I have retired in the Philippines so diabetic consultants, are either hard to find or don't...

    Beer !

room04A, you say you are not an alcoholic, because you don't go to meetings. I know from personal experience about AA. Your definition is typical denial. I am not going to go on at length here because this forum is about diabetes. When you get to the stage I can't stop drinking, it should ring...

Refused DLA for 13 year Old.

Don't forget you have an MP. Write to him/her about a situation that could put a child's life at risk, and if you have to keep getting medical assistance, just how much is this costing the NHS. Only costs a stamp or maybe just an email.

What to eat with a tummy bug?

Honestly the best cure for a tummy bug, is just water. That's when you are not a diabetic. If you have test strips I am sure it is still the best cure. Don't forget your liver will give you a certain amount of protection. Just test regularly and if you need to, reduce your medication. I am...
