Type 2 What is going on?

My pre prandial BG readings used to average at about 4.7. In the last few months this has gone up to about 5.1. However the post prandial rise is smaller. Previously it was about 1.5 and now it is about 0.5. Is this better? Or worse? Or not worth worrying about. I am on no medication and have...

    Emergency rations

For reasons I don’t need to go into, I found myself at Gatwick airport following a flight and realised I hadn’t eaten for about 18 hours. I went into M&S and found a sandwich that was “half the bread, all the filling”. At 21g carbs, it was more than I would usually eat in one go but was a much...

    I wish I hadn’t done it

I decided to experiment today and had a half portion of scampi and chips with peas for lunch at the pub. Pre meal my BG was 5 and I have been testing every hour since. After 1hr, 7.5 2hrs, 7.4 3hrs 7.1 Needless to say, I won’t be doing that again! The worst of it is, I didn’t particularly enjoy...

Type 2 Diabetes UK speaker training

I have been asked to go on a course, held by Diabetes UK, to become part of their speaker programme to raise awareness of the condition in the community. What do forum members think of Diabetes UK’s programme? How compatible is it with Diabetes.com? I will research it myself but am interested to...

    Ideas please

I have just been made a Health Champion for T2D and am going to start a support group. I need a snappy name for it. Any suggestions?

    Hba1c up

I cannot help being disappointed with my latest results. I know they are still very good but I have gone up from 33mmol to 36mmol. As far as I can tell I have not increased my carb intake. I wonder if this rise should be considered significant or if it is within the expected margin of error.

    Livlife bread

Waitrose are going to discontinue stocking Livlife bread! This is terrible news for me as it is an absolute staple of my diet and helps keep me on track.

Gradually introducing a few more carbs

Well, the Hba1c is down to 33 and I hardly ever go above 6mmol post prandial so I have stared to eat a few more carbs. Yesterday I had a longed for cheese and bacon puff from the bakery for lunch...pre 4.6 two hrs later 5.3. Today I ate 135g new potatoes (previous meals 100g) with salad, salmon...

Type 2 Results back, all good except HDL too high

I just had my test results and all were fine but my HDL had gone up to 2.01 mol - (LDL 3.3, trigs 0.7) giving me an HDL/LDL ratio of 0.615. Is 2.01 disastrously high? I won't be seeing the DN for a couple of weeks so would appreciate your thoughts/experience. My Hba1c was 33.

DN gave me My mhealth app

On my last visit to the DN she registered me with My mhealth, an app for recording BG readings and much more. Apparently Dorset NHS has paid for this and are trialling it. I have to say I am very pleased with it but equally pleased with the respect my DN shows me. It is good that she, and...

    Hurrah

I am so pleased with myself! One year after diagnosis my Hba1c has gone from 95 to 34. My cholesterol is down (triglycerides 0.6). I have lost three and a half stones, blood pressure normal and am off all meds. This is wholly due to the advice and support offered on this forum. Thank you.

Type 2 Sugar through the skin

After making some jam (we have a glut of plums) I had an unusually high reading of 7 at 2 hrs post prandial, which is almost unheard of for me. I had cut the plums prior to cooking and eaten a supper that I have had many times before with no problems. I washed my hands and tested and repeated the...

    One off high carb meal

I am being taken out for a birthday meal soon and would like to be a bit naughty and eat a "normal" meal. I won't go mad, though. My BG is constantly well inside the limits and comes down quickly after food. Do you think I am crazy to contemplate doing this? I am T2 with average BG of 5.2?

    Just to let you know

Thanks to the advice I have taken from this forum I am now off Metformin! Six months after diagnosis my HbA1c has drooped from 95 to35 BP 110/78 BMI 21.4 Nurse says my cholesterol is a bit high for a diabetic at HDL 1.6 and LDL 3.5 but I refused statins. I don't think that is disastrously bad...

    Blurry eyes

After about 3 weeks of intermittent blurry vision, I finally went to the opticians. After every test they had, including a scan, it turns out that I am a bit long sighted. What a relief. The optician said that high BGs may have masked the condition and, now they have returned to normal (thanks...

    Experimenting with my diet

I thought I'd try out what would happen if I ate an ultra thin pizza from m and s. (Well, I was in need of a treat and I really fancied it). Before lunch my BG was 5.2. Two hours later it had jumped to 7.8, the highest it has been since I started testing myself. One hour later I tested again...

    Oomi noodles

I have just found some low carb noodles in the stir fry section at tesco. They are made of fish protein and somehow I don't fancy that. Has anyone tried them? Are they fishy?

    Party nibbles

I will be hosting our book group next week and would like to serve low carb nibbles....to show everyone that the diet isn't as bad as they all think. What nibbles would you recommend? I am a keen cook and require a sweet idea as well as savoury ones. Thanks.
