    Any gamers here?

Have you ever had mental health issues related to diabetes?

Re: Have you ever had mental health issues related to diabet I think I've experienced all the ones mentioned in the poll. :( I do think people should be checked up on more frequently when they're first diagnosed instead of leaving them to fumble along after being given very very basic...

    Insulin Resistance v Insulin Deficiency

You've pretty much summed up how I see it too. So glad I exercise/keep myself active enough to keep my sensitivity levels stable.

I smoke, drink and eat chocolate - bite me!!

How sad that people still feel compelled to call themselves a "good" or "bad" diabetic even to this day. I don't believe in those labels since they help no one. You're human as much as the next person - some worrying about others judging you. It's your body and it's up to you to take...

    Dafne

That's quite a claim. Care to give some actual evidence of this? Most diabetes fail to keep tabs on their ketones properly or cannot see the real meaning of them apart from "I'm seriously unwell now". Ketones are a natural key part of any sickday rules, this is a given. You may not agree but...

'dont' inject in a public toilet !

Golly, surprising that she even put it down but hey ho! When in the cubicles, I use my own stuff as a "table" (this is rare though) or I just simply don't put the pen down at all while attempting to do an injection. Bit of basic forward planning can prevent you from putting it down at all...

    Pneumonia jab

How interesting.... If it helps with anyone's questions: NHS: Pneumococcal vaccination I don't know if I've ever had a pneumonia jab. My local GP did offer it to me last year though it was before asking if I'd had it already. I was diagnosed when I was 5, so I won't remember if it was done then...

Didn't you find the sick day rules mind blowing too? I would have never ever considered taking that much insulin if I was ill throughout my time as a diabetic but amazingly it does work! You can potentially stop yourself from needing to go to hospital as a result! Bonus! For those wondering why...

    C-peptide News from Diabetes UK

Hi all, I don't know about you but I got a letter from Diabetes UK today about this: Unlock the Promise of C-peptide Very exciting - especially considering they're even looking at adding it to our insulins! Even if I don't have any complications right now, I think this is marvellous news...

Ah that is a shame. :( Considering it's nature I'm surprised it hasn't continued. My bad for not realising this. Thanks!

    Insulin adjustment and time zones

Hi Kazzabon! I've been to Japan twice (and hope to go live there in the next year or so) and while I've been finding out more about healthcare there, I have had a few people ask me exactly this sort of question. Here is one of my replies (I've made the particular bit of interest bold): To me...

    Dafne

The diabetes care team may not be aware but there is a DAFNE based course for kids called KiCK-OFF: http://www.kick-off.org.uk/ Might be worth asking them about that as well as getting directly in contact with the DAFNE organisation. :)

    Anyone out there a gamer?

There are definitely plenty of lady gamers but I think most of the gaming industry like to think that they're a rare thing even now (gotta love watching those still in denial, some of the stuff they come out with can be a hoot!). I look forward to the days when the video gaming industry grows up...

    Immigration & Type 1 Diabetes

Just for an update for anyone else looking into doing a trip to Japan like me - it does really look like that the best option for someone with this condition without a degree is to go out there for 3 months and share accommodation with someone who can possibly work (such as my partner!). I could...

    Dafne

Welcome to the DAFNE life, Ausra! ^_^ I think ishjohno summed it all up quite nicely - it's a life changing course, especially for someone like me who's been diabetic for 21 years. :) I did my course back in 2009 and I will never look back. Shame I couldn't have done it sooner - that's my only...

How often do you do it?

I used to never change it despite being told to change it every time. I now change it every time because there's no excuse not to really. During the time when I didn't, I managed to get a nasty scar on my right arm which is like a matching scar with my TB jab one on my left arm - all thanks to...

    Driving Licence Revoked

How frustrating for you. All this news recently of them being weird about driving licences had me very worry that I wasn't going to get mine back. I have only been driving for 3 years with no problems too. I got the okay and my licence literately arrived yesterday. Maybe it's because I've only...
