Two excellent sources on nutrition, health and cholesterol

I haven't heard of the first guy, but I loved Peter Attia until I saw this http://www.ted.com/talks/peter_attia_what_if_we_re_wrong_about_diabetes and then I loved him even more!

    Hmm, didn't see that coming

What are these web-based, free programs of which you speak? Seriously though, I have lost touch with how my bg is responding to what I'm eating day to day and need to get wtih the program, no pun intended.

    Amputation

I haven't experienced this myself, but my father (who is no longer with us) had a below knee amputation due to gangrene which developed from a cut on his foot and which wouldn't heal due to badly controlled blood sugars. He was awake during the operation but he was drugged as when I went to see...

    Prescription Charges In England

That's what I have experienced. Because now that I am controlling my diabetes by diet alone, I lost my right to free prescriptions.

    Prescription Charges In England

Just to clarify, I don't think you automatically get free scripts if you are Diabetic. It seems you need to be on some form of diabetic medication in order to qualify.

I can't understand why the NHS don't ask people who are successfully keeping their bg under control how they do it instead of penny pinching on the test strips. It's a real shame.

    Review

I saw a GP at my surgery who I'd never previously seen before and he complimented me on my bg control. Then I asked for a prescription for more test strips. He agreed but commented that NHS advice was that T2 patients don't need to test as it didn't make any difference! I told him that...

Why does my Urine smell like TCP?

I used to get that a lot years ago - way before I was diagnosed as diabetic. I still don't know what caused it.

    Daytime sleepiness

    Statins, and why take 'em?

I think Geocacher is being very unfair to Dr. Briffa by saying he is motivated by greed and that he writes about his opinions. Dr. Briffa does write about his opinions - but very often they are backed up by evidence. My GP has yet to show me that it is safer for me to take statins than not...

    Olympics

I live on an Olympic Route Network and it makes doing simple journeys more complicated and time consuming. In a way, I can't wait for it to be over even though I love watching sport, and usually love the Olympics. That said, I wish Team GB a lot of success. Just for fun, try this...

What can I use to replace potatoes & pasta?

Just a suggestion (which probably wouldn't work for most) but you could try adding a little grain to your plate in the form of quinoa, cous cous or bulgar wheat. They are still carby, but have higher protein levels than you would expect. I find they make a change from traditional carbs and...
