    Metformin - understanding more

This thread has some useful information, including a section about metformin. It's easy to forget that high blood sugar has other effects - such as causing eye problems. For myself, my annual HBA1c readings since diagnosis with T2 have been (earliest first) 7%,51,53,48,44,42,40,41 The reading...

Collecting Prescriptions as part of your exercise

My pharmacy keeps offering this - my replay is always "thank you, but at present it's an exercise opportunity"!

    Breeze 2 - equivalent replacement?

Well, I saw the diabetic nurse yesterday to ask for advice on alternatives, and during the discussion she pinted out the blindingly obvious - call the manufacturer and see whats what (doh). She did have some freebies, but the test strips on them were all dated Dec 2016. So I called Bayer - they...

    Diabetes and depression

Not forgetting that simply being diagnosed can make you feel low - "Why me?" - once the shock of the bad news wears off. It doesn't do any harm to pop and see your GP or diabetic nurse.

    Type 2 Mild dizzy spells

I have this problem as well - since being prescribed Tamsulosin for BPH. In my case its Postural Hypotension (I think) http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Blood-pressure-(low)/Pages/Symptoms.aspx A **** nuisance. It does cause a problem if you are learning to fly! It particularly happens after...

Reducing MetFormin - any side effects?

My results from my review this morning were good - HBA1c of 40, cholesterol of 3.1,both showing a small but steady decrease over the last few years (along with my weight). I'm currently on 3 metformin/day, and given my results I broached with my GP the possibility of reducing my MF to 2/day...

    Breeze 2 - equivalent replacement?

I've deleted my post from the other day about this meter, 'cos I've found the answer. So I have a new, re-phrased question! The Breeze 2 was handy in that the test strips were supplied in blister packs, 10 to a pack (in the form of a disc that you loaded into the machine). This means that for...

NHS Direct doctor says... NO testing when taking Metformin

My GP's view is that I don't need to test on a regualar basis unless I want to out of curiousity ("You'll probaby worry yourself unneccesarily") but to do so, if I wish, if I feel unwell. At my last review he asked if I needed test strips (he supplied them on prescription but I expect that may...

NHS Direct doctor says... NO testing when taking Metformin

My own GP recommends that I only test if I feel unwell (although I do from time to time out of curiosity and to check all is in order). He did point out that I should be aware that my own test results could cause unnecessary worry. So every now and again I test for a few days pre and post...

Metformin. Its worse than the diabetes

Hi Gobbo - Does sound as if your GP is a tad unsympathetic. First of all the test strips - if you are on Metformin then you should be able to get these free on prescription - in fact, along with everything else. For my 1st 2 years I was excercise-and-diet only, and had to fund the test strips...
