    When do you inject?

I had lunch with a fellow diabetic today who told me he injects before meals. I usually figure out what I'm going to eat, do the ol' carb counting then inject afterwards. I've heard of people who inject mid meal as well. Is there a 'best approach', does metabolism factor in or what the meal...

    New Meter, different numbers?

Hi... I just got a new meter, one of the ones that this site gives away (Bayer)... I thought I would test it against the one I usually use(bog standard Boots brand meter). The boots meter gave me a reading of 13.4, the new one gave me a reading of 11.7. Not sure which one to trust! Any ideas...

Hi Everyone... I just wanted to see if there were any opinions as to which insulin was 'better': Apidra or Humalog? Cheers... Andrew

    Spicy food and BG

Hi... wondered if someone could help me out... I enjoy the occasional hot Indian dish, namely vindaloo. I try to keep it to a minimum because of the rice, nan etc. However, it still wreaks havoc on my BG levels. I've looked at the amount of carbs and adjust accordingly yet I still get...

    Insulin and alcohol

How do you adjust your insulin for alcohol - namely beer. I know it has carbs in it and I'm not worried if I have one, but if I have more than that I notice the effect on my BG. However, it always make me nervous to add any insulin as I know that it will drop my BG later on (normal morning...

    Stress and High BG

Hi... I've searched the forum to see if this has been addressed, if I have overlooked a thread and this is a duplicate please point me in the right direction.... Can stress cause BG to go up? I'm currently doing some driving lessons. I ate a small lunch (sandwich and a banana) about 1/2 an...

    Thank You

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone on here. I've had a couple of what I consider to be naive questions; no one has ever made me feel silly for asking them. I've always received very straight forward and frank advice. I really appreciate this. So... a big thanks to everyone who has made...

No Insulin and a good reading?

I was diagnosed as T1 around 9 months ago and am on a basal/bolus regime (20 u of Lantus and a 1:10 of humalog). Well... perhaps because it was Monday but I forgot my insulin at home today (first time I've ever done that!) - to make matters worse, my BG tester gave up the ghost this morning...

    Can't get lower then 7

Hi... I'm type one, diagnosed around 9 months ago. Overall, I feel I have decent control over my BG. It ranges from 4.5 to 6(ish) before meals and I have got it down from 12 before bed to 8-9. I've been told that a fasting BG should be 5-6 but I can't get below 7? I'm on 20u of Lantus taken...

    What are good BG readings?

I've seen a lot of people saying what are good and what are bad results. Mine seem to be higher... I'm around 7 and change each morning, 5-6 before meals (but can be up to 8) and usually between 9 and 11 before bed. Now, that seemed high to me but my BA1c is 6.1 which is good right? I guess...

    New to the forum...

Hi... My name is Andrew, I'm a Canadian living in the UK. I was diagnosed in June of 2011. At first I was given tablets but then moved to a basal bolus regime. I was doing rather well with my latest HBA1c at 6.1% I'm on 18 units of Lantus, taken in the evening and roughly a 10:1 of either...
