    Insulin and oral steroids

I've just been put on 3 days of oral steroids because my hayfever is so severe my breathing is compromised. First time the GP has done this since I was diagnosed 6 years ago with T1. Any idea how much they generally push up BG levels? They told me just to keep an eye on them but mine are...

    Mental health vs physical health

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-11848095/Justin-Webbs-son-Sam-speaks-battles-type-1-diabetes.html There's been quite a few posts on here recently which has had me thinking about whether we sometimes try and put our physical health (blood sugar's in range) above our mental health...

    A sentence in this article.....

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-7648847/It-blight-lives-350-000-people-new-type-1-5-diabetes.html "Even when someone with Lada is on insulin, we find their blood sugar levels are difficult to manage, and we are not sure why that is." I was diagnosed 2.5 years ago at the age of 43. I...

    Tresiba peaks

I take my Tresiba dose at about 6am. Around 5pm with very light exercise (a walk!) my BG tends to plummet to sub 4. I've tested various Novorapid scenarios and even taking my last dose of that at 12 (& running high all afternoon) I still drop low at about 5/6 pm with just a walk. My consultant...

    Injecting at work!!

There are some very interesting views on the other thread about how discrete us T1Ds should be when injecting in public. I didn't think this would be the first time someone has had grief for injecting at work, so had a bit of a google. Turns out there is actually a construction dismissal case...

breath sensor detecting when body is in Ketosis

Thought this would interest a few people - copied from www.fiercebiotech.com Keyto bags $2.5M to advance device-app combo for the ketogenic diet Keyto raised a $2.5 million seed round to bring its personalized ketogenic diet program to market. The program includes a smart breath sensor that...

    Ongoing Vision Problems

This isn't about retinopathy. My hospital scan last year was completely clear and every time I've set foot in the opticians this year they've taken some photos just to be assured there is nothing wrong - all been clear. Diagnosed last year and in the run up my usual short-sightedness got a lot...

    Bcg Vaccine

Who has seen the articles in the press re the BCG vaccine helping T1D? https://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2018/06/21/bcg-vaccine-can-reverse-type-1-diabetes-almost-undetectable/

    Fitbit users...

Any fitbit users who used it to monitor calories burned against food intake? I'm still losing weight 8 months after my T1 diagnosis and trying to work out if it's simply not enough food or something more sinister. GP running bloods to check the obvious stuff, but I'm down 1.5 stones in 12...

    Consultant appointments - how often?

Any idea if there is a 'service level' for how often a T1 is supposed to see a consultant, have blood tests etc? I was due an appointment at the end of May but received a cancellation letter this morning from Stoke Mandeville. Its very much a standard letter so gives no info apart from 'we're...

    Changing from lantus to tresiba

I was diagnosed LADA last August and put on lantus and novorapid. In my consultant appointment in October they told me it was normal to feel exhausted because my body was adjusting to sugar levels of <10 rather than >30, but something just didn't feel right. I upped my vitamins, reduced carbs...

    Basal test

I changed over to Tresiba from Lantus 5 weeks ago and have been struggling a bit with dropping low, especially when out and about during the day. I have quite an active lifestyle so need to work out how to manage this. Tried a basal test last night - never done one before - so wanted to check...

    Lantus side effects

Can anyone point me in the direction of any 'proper' research or feedback that Lantus can cause muscle aches and pains? I've read on forums that it can, but I don't think "some random stranger on a forum says so" is going to have much effect when I have a chat with the diabetes team at the...

How long to reduce HbA1c results?

Diagnosed in Aug with HbA1c of 147. Taken exactly 12 weeks later and told result today was 70. Obviously I'm pleased it's heading down, but that's still high. How long does it normally take a new T1 to get a result <50?

    Chromium

Picked up my prescription this week and the pharmacy have inserted a leaflet on chromium tablets in the bag. Done a bit of reading and it looks like chromium can help with the uptake of glucose into the muscles (that's a bit simple, but general gist) Any T1s take chromium supplementation?

    Training nurses on LADA

Sitting in A&E waiting for a xray. I wrote type 1 diabetes and my meds on the form for the triage nurse. You are too old to be type 1 she tells me as she scribbles type 2 over the top of my writing. 20% of people are diagnosed over the age of 40 I say..... Stupid thing is I was diagnosed just...

Antibody tests - what do the results mean?

I've had results back for ICA and GAD and I've been told both are high. Is there anywhere that shows averages, so I can see what 'high' actually means?

    When you first inform them....

Just completed the form. So I send it off - & then what happens? Only been on insulin a few days and my blood glucose readings were sky high, so no hypos yet. Sent from my SM-J500FN using Diabetes.co.uk Forum mobile app

    Eyesight!

I've had to borrow my Hubby's reading glasses to even be able to see my laptop screen. Diagnosed with probable type 2 a fortnight ago, changed to type one (at the very old age of 43) when the gliclazide failed to do anything and I ended up in A&E with high keton readings. Problematic eyesight...
