    My Story so far

Went back for follow-up this week. Diet is holding steady at around 60-70 grams of carbs a day. Repeat A1c is 5.3, so it seems to be holding steady at that number which is great. I asked for a repeat of the GAD antibody, as I was curious if it had changed now that my A1c has stabilized. To my...

Help understanding post lunch blood sugar

Hi all - I am a type 1.5 in the prediabetic stage. Fasting blood glucose is currently 85-90. BS controlled with diet/exercise only. I eat about 60-75 carbs a day. I acquired a Freestyle Libre several months ago and it has been really helpful learning what I can eat. My goal is peak of 120-130 at...

    100% Cocoa Chocolate

I tried this but it was unfortunately too bitter for me. Odd, though, I had some 99% which was far superior. I have gotten into buying Callebaut cocao mass (they sell it at Whole foods), melting it down, adding Stevia, and pouring it into silicone molds to make my own chocolate bars. Not hard to...

    Black Bean Brownie recipe anyone?

Here's my attempt at the lowcarbyum recipe. It is excellent!! I made 2 substitutions. I used Black beans instead of black soy beans. Used cacao nibs on top instead of chocolate chips.

I am not seeing the app for the iPhone in the App store. Was the app released in US as well?

For those in the US, Costco has 3 pounds of Almond flour for about $12.

    Black Bean Brownie recipe anyone?

I am looking for good low carb black bean brownie recipes. I have made a few recipes from online searches in the last couple months, and they turned out pretty well. I enjoy eating the black bean brownies with some unsweetened peanut butter on top. Anyone have a recipe they really like? The...

Chia seeds, need some more ways to eat them [emoji3]

Wow, love all these ideas! My standard is 3 tablespoons of Chia seeds overnight in 1 cup almond milk, then 130 grams of Greek yogurt, 2 tablespoons of Flaxseed, 2 tablespoons of pepitas, and 30 grams of raspberries. Low carb, quite filling with protein and fiber.

    My Story so far

@runner2009 My fasting BG has been pretty consistently 83-85, higher if I don't exercise the day before. I have looked back at my labs for the last 5 years, and fasting BG as always been in this range. I wish I knew what it was 10 or 15 years ago. I did some reading on the FMD diet and it...

    My Story so far

Update: So I got my A1c repeated about a week ago, which is around 4 months after I made significant diet changes. Current A1c is 5.3, down from 5.7. So, I definitely made an improvement, but I will admit that I was hoping it would be lower. Currently, my fasting glucose is around 82-88, and 1...

Great post and I really appreciate all the information! Wow - I think it is incredible you have kept your A1C so tightly controlled. That is fantastic! I have read Dr. B's book but I need to read it again. There is so much information it is hard to absorb all at once. No, there wasn't any...

    My Story so far

LOL, the race went very well! The weather was perfect for running, mid 60's or so. First 9 miles actually went quickly, and I was on pace to get close to a PR. However, those last 4 miles are always tough, and I think the lack of carbs in my diet took a bit of a toll. I still finished strong...

    LADA

There is an excellent review article that was just published that summarizes current knowledge on LADA. The article is titled: Adult-onset autoimmune diabetes: current knowledge and implications for management. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28885622 I was able to obtain the entire...

    My Story so far

Vegas was awesome! Weather was perfect, and I finished in the top 10% so very happy with that. I made one mistake on the trip, which is the first night went to a sushi place. I had planned what I was going to eat, (mostly poke and salad), but they messed up the order and I ended up with some...

    Low carb training

Interesting article, thanks for sharing! Coincidently, I do exercise after dinner (because that's the only time I have), but I don't do the fasting work out in the AM. No time in the day for both!

    My Story so far

Yes, that makes sense about quinoa vs black beans. Fortunately, black beans seems to work, at least for now. At some point I will try the quinoa again to confirm, but I am in no rush to do that. Correct - I am in my mid 40's. I am training my body away from less and less carbs before and during...

Thanks, that advice makes sense. That's funny, I did actually open up Dr. Bernstein's book last night to check what it said about quinoa. Not surprisingly, it's on the "do not eat" list. I am really impressed that you are able to keep your breakfast carbs at 6, that's awesome! My current regular...
