    Newly Diagnosed - Advice Needed

The two main things you can control are activity and diet. As stated in the previous post, switching to a lower carb/higher fat diet has become a tried and true way to get better BG control and A1c numbers and you have been referred to the best source. Increasing your activity should also help...

    Cost of food now?

Seems the cost of 'healthy' foods goes up more than 'regular' foods sometimes. A large part of my organic produce is now purchased as frozen - this provides substantial savings over fresh and is easier to buy larger quantities for further savings. Since I am single, it is not always efficient...

    Shopping day today!

Chia seeds do not have a strong flavor - imho. They do absorb moisture. In baking they retain crunch. Cold cereal-depends on how long it sits. Hot cereal-will soften. Yogurt-let sit overnight and soften will be slightly crunchy if eaten immediately. They have a good high fiber, low carb...

    Shopping day today!

My morning "cereal" can be eaten cold or hot - coconut flour, flax seed meal, chia seeds, protein powder, walnuts, almonds (flour & some pieces), a few berries, stevia & cinammon - recently started adding ginger, cumin & coriander. I add unsweeetened soy milk. Maybe you will get some ideas...

    Butter?

Other posts address the technical differences - all I know is that it's the best tasting I can buy from the store here in Florida.

    NO veg please

Try putting some of the veggies you don't like into a stew, soup, etc. Many of them will cook down or maybe just be more palatable that way. Stir fry might also work. How can you have any pudding if you don't eat yer meat or veggies in this case.

    Liver dump

DPP-4 inhibitors act on insulin production by the pancreas and glucagon production by the liver. However, I am not aware of any information relating to their effect on morning highs. Anecdotally, I can say my use of a DPP-4 inhibitor has coincided with stabilizing and slightly improving my...

    Liver dump

I have posted regarding this previously in another thread...This is a problem for many diabetics including myself. Two things that can contribute/cause high BG #'s upon waking are the 'dawn phenomenon' and the Somogyi effect. They both involve the body raising BG. The dawn phenomenon is...

A few asking for low carb food lists....

This is one of a few you can find on internet: Great Low-Carb Bread Company: "Soft and flavorful. These breads are super low carb with barely 1-3 grams of carbohydrate after subtracting the dietary fiber…even in the bagels. Hamburger buns, white bread, pumpernickle, a variety of bagels, and...

Where do you get the fibre ??

Non starchy veggies, nuts, seeds - chia and flax (ground flax seeds add easily to many things) are high in fiber & coconut flour are all good sources of dietary fiber and generally on the low end of carb content. There are some veggies that are considered 'free' or at least minimal when...

    Which yoghurt?

Greek yogurt has a better carb/protein profile than regular. As previously suggested, get plain and add your own things. Fruit-few berries or a couple of strawberries mashed up to disperse flavor better & nuts are good. I add coconut flour, ground flax seeds & chia seeds in addition to...

How do some people lower their HbA1c's so drastically on diagnosis of type 2?

I am a type 2 who does not need to lose weight. If I gained a bit it would be okay. The low carb diet, first and foremost, helps me have better BG control and I don't lose weight on it. Exchanging carbs for good fat and protein is the objective. Your body converts fat into energy instead of...

Type 2: What are your most recent HBA1C results?

While many things can affect A1c and BG for that matter, it is a good barometer of BG control in general and an important tool to help one understand their situation. Although touted as a 90 day average, it is skewed more towards 30-60 usually. Agreed, it should not be viewed as a competition...

Chia seeds, what do I do with them?

Chia seeds have a very good nutrition profile-high in good fat, high protein for a seed and low net carb due to high fiber content. For starters - add to yogurt/pudding, dry or hot cereal, stews and many baking recipes. As previously posted, take into account the fact that they absorb fluid...

Type 2s: What have you eaten today?

    Fruit

There are many good veggies that can be eaten in almost any T2 diet-imho. Not so for fruits in general. I think the consensus is now pointing towards pure fruit juice as NG for diabetics and non-diabetics alike - although they can tolerate some. My low carb diet includes berries and a little...

Sorry it's so long for you. It's always been the same for me. I hope there are no incidences for either of us.

    Carbs that work for me

Agreed. As we age two things usually progress - decrease in production of insulin by the pancreas and increase in insulin resistance. Dietary and lifestyle choices can affect/slow that progression.
