    Annual Review Blood Test

Thank you for confirming the time. I am now completely baffled why they want me to wait 3 weeks. I go to see the nurse for the annual checkups (feet, weight, blood pressure etc) and she barely acknowledges my blood test results - which means it really is pointless for me to wait that long. I...

    Annual Review Blood Test

Hi So I have my blood test for my annual review next week. I then need my appointment with a nurse for the rest, but I was told that I couldn't have that until 3 weeks after my blood test because they need the results back. How long do blood test results usually take to come back? Is this a...

Whats the most annoying thing people say about diabetes?

When I was newly diagnosed my "friend" came out with the worst response I have ever heard: "Oh well, at least it's not cancer" No, I just have a chronic illness for the rest of my life (which is a long time when you're 19)

    Insulin/metformin

I take 2000mg once a day of slow release metformin with insulin. Pretty sure this is the maximum dose. I am type 1 (not sure if this makes a difference) but in total it reduces my basal insulin by about 10 units.

    insulin pens

Ask your GP for another one on prescription. I got a spare that way just in case anything does happen to mine.

    negative antibodies

I'm type 1 with negative GAD antibodies, but positive IA2. So the fact that they were negative doesn't necessarily mean you aren't type 1. Medication is usually done by what works best for the patient to have control of their condition rather than the "label" of diabetes they have, so it...

    Type 1 & Metformin (Effects)

I'm T1 with PCOS. I take 2g slow release with dinner. Initially I was put on it because they didn't know what type I was, then kept me on it because I have PCOS. I used to take 2 separate doses but changed to 1 for convenience (one less tablet to remember to take!). At this point I changed from...

Does metformin mean no more drinking?

I must be an exception then! I am on 2g Metformin and cannot drink. I didn't drink much before I started Metformin, but now I get stomach cramps with less than a unit of alcohol.

    No Time/Date on Meter

I don't drive very often, hence not needing to test lots every day. I think I might mention this to them next time - they might find it difficult to argue with the law (?) I was told to just write it down when I test.. but I would lose the piece of paper, or not have it on me (most likely) and...

    No Time/Date on Meter

In September I moved GP and I was given a TrueResult Twist meter by my GP surgery as they wouldn't prescribe test strips for my previous one. As I have been using up strips from my old one I haven't really been using it much. However, having run out of test strips for the other meter I am now...

    Metformin and alcohol

Everyone is different. I can't drink any, after a few mouthfuls I get bad stomach cramps.

My GP Practice - a rant

I don't drive. So that isn't an issue. But if that is the only reason, then why should I have to test every day?

My GP Practice - a rant

Just to say that I am type 1 and I rarely get hypos. Maybe one every 2-3 months on average. I went almost a year without a hypo a while back. (so type 1's without hypos do exist!) I also don't test every day. On here people seem to say that you should. But I don't see much point when the numbers...

do you need to have gad antibodies to be type 1 ??

You don't need them to be type 1, so no. I am type 1 but don't have them. Another blood test they typically do is IA2, if this is high then you are type 1. Most places start with GAD because most type 1 have them.

    Hospital referral?

I've just moved back home after university and I'm trying to get myself all sorted with everything here. I was only diagnosed with type 1 diabetes whilst at university, so I have no idea if what they are telling me a home is normal or not... I asked whether I needed to be referred to the...
