    Depression

Diabetes runs deeply in my family (mother side). Looking back, I think my mom dealt with it in her own way. I don't think she was in any medication. Her illness was not explained - I don't even know what type of diabetes she had. There were no diabetes-related incidents that I can remember...

    My hba1c result.....

My doctor burst into the room and ecstatically claimed, "You've done very well! You've done what's quite hard to do in 3 months!" The result was 6.5 (down from 7.0). I mentioned the support I got from this forum - and she wrote down the name of this site, which I assume she'll be recommending...

    Reasonable HbA1c Expectation

I'm going for my HbA1c test on Wednesday. There is this anxious anticipation of that event. I have been taking a regular daily test everyday, and the following are the average readings for 90 days (my meter can't go any more than that): Fasting: 5.8 Before meals: 5.8 After meals: 7.0...

    One Hour after- meal test

Before my lunch, my bg was 5.2 An hour after lunch, my bg was 6.6 Two hours after lunch, it was 7.0 ------------------------------- I thought the 1 hour test gives you the reading at the peak of the bg. Why was mine lower than the bg reading after two hours?

What is considered an ABNORMALLY HIGH fasting glucose level?

Just want to verify. What reading is "abnormally high" after fasting? An article is scaring me - it says 5.6 mmol and above is abnormally high. Is that true?

    Weight gain?

I went on a 17-hour fasting yesterday for the first time, and walked about 20 minutes. For lunch (11 am) I had 2/3 cup tuna salad, about 5 pork rinds and 3 celery sticks with cream cheese. For snacks - a handful of peanuts/almonds For supper I had 1 and 1/2 pork sausages and mixed greens...

    If stress is a factor......

Just out of curiosity…..and it is job-related. If stress can affect BG readings, when is it the best time to make sure you are indeed relaxed, or not as stressed out: while eating, or a few minutes before taking your blood rate?

    Overall average?

My glucometer gives an overall average for the readings, and my average for the past 7 days is 6.8, and for past 14 days is 6.9. Assuming that my average stays that way till November, does that number give a good picture of what to expect when I get my A1C done?

    Whatever happened to Splenda?

When I first started on low carbs (Atkins), Splenda sweetener was the big thing. Mind you, I hardly used it back then since I never really took to baking. But then, over the years and having fallen off the wagon I've lost track of low carb issues. Now, I'm looking for a keto cheesecake...

    Simple, Comfort Food Recipes

This is my revised Keto version of the classic comfort food, creamy tuna casserole. This is done using a skillet, stove-top. There is no precise measurement (because I don't do measurements). :) Ingredients: Onions, chopped garlic mushrooms, sliced cauliflower, sliced into bite-sized...

    How many times a day?

Test strips are quite expensive, and I don't think they can be re-used. While still new at this, I'm doing my test at least 6 times a day, but maybe later on - when it's safe to say my bg is under control, I'm thinking of cutting back. How many times do you take your bg test in a day? How...

    What does this means?

Hi folks, I took my bg right after I woke up at 4:30 am. The reading was 6.2 mmol. At 6:50 am, I took my bg before eating my breakfast. It is 6.9. Why is it getting higher? Thanks.

    Savoury Oatmeal

Today for breakfast, I made garlic fried oatmeal topped with a couple of fried eggs. It was inspired by Cameron Diaz' savoury oatmeal. The result was a satisfying and quite filling dish that can be quite versatile, as far as recipes go. I intentionally planned it for breakfast (since I don't...
