Keto in the USA: total or net carbs?

Hi folks - I live in the UK and follow a keto diet - 20-30g of carbs per day. I’m in the US for a while and don’t know whether I should be reading net carbs or total carbs on food labels so that I follow the same rules as I have been using in the uk. Can anyone help? Thank you!!

    Painkillers & Low Blood Sugars

Hi - I have sprained my pectoral muscle and am taking codeine and ibuprofen regularly. I have found my blood sugars dipping very low. I usually manage my T2 diabetes with a low carb diet and I’m eating normally so I’m wondering if it’s related to the painkillers. Anyone else found painkillers...

    Libre readings between scans

Hi folks. I’m new to Libre - and a big fan. Loving the break from finger pricking. Can you help me understand how Libre gives me readings between scans? I scanned at 10.30pm and again at 09.36am so how is it creating the jaggy graph between those two points?

    LCHF supplements?

Hi - I’m 11 months into T2 diagnosis and a LCHF diet. I haven’t taken any supplements but have read a few articles suggesting you probably should if you are consistently on LCHF. Have you found it helpful / necessary to do this? I know there are many folks here who have been LCHF for many years...

    In remission!

Great news today from my first Hba1c test since February - it’s 38 and I’m so happy. Last one was 42 back in Feb, down from 98 in Nov when I was diagnosed. This forum and all you amazing folks set me on the right path. I’m so grateful. Thank you [emoji120].

    Bloodshot eyes

Hi everyone - I have been struggling for months now with bloodshot eyes, uncomfortable, sometimes weeping. I thought it was an allergy, hat fever ... but I have tried everything and nothing alleviates it. Might it be related to my T2 diabetes? I will get a doc’s appointment next week but really...

How long does a blood glucose meter last?

Hi - I am getting some inconsistent numbers from my meter (9 months old). It’s told me I’m in a hypo a couple of times with readings of under 4. When I try again, it’s 4.8 instead of 3.8. Do you think I need to replace it? I was only diagnosed in Nov last year so it’s my first one.

    #makeiteasier

UK govt has a new policy to fight obesity. It includes stating the calories in restaurant meals and alcoholic drinks. Why not report carbs too? Make it easier for the millions of people with diabetes to carefully manage their carb intake. What other policies would make it easier for you?

    Carbs or net carbs?

Hi - noticed that quite a few keto recipes give you a net carb weight rather than the total carbs. I am aiming for less than 20g carbs per day. Could that be net carbs? Bit confused...

    Bacterial vaginosis / Thrush control

Hi ladies - there’s a lot of threads on thrush but I have found that I have BV ( there’s a Canestest you can buy to help you work out which one you have). Doctor is prescribing antibiotics but a few days after I finish them, it’s back. Anyone else experiencing similar? Found a good way to manage...

Hi - I am 4 months in to my diagnosis as T2 and have got my blood sugar well under control with diet and more recently exercise. Type 2 Blood sugar levels and colds

Hi - I’m 2 months into a keto diet, after a diagnosis of type 2. All has been going well and my blood sugar levels have gone down quickly. In the last week they’ve settled almost a point higher (instead of 5.4 or 5.8 I am at 6.4 or 6.8). It doesn’t feel good to be flirting with the upper limits...

    One minute Keto muffins

Hi - I tried the 1 minute microwave muffin today. I thought it had potential but mine was too dry and dense. What’s the answer to that? Less coconut flour? Add some water? I love coconut so it would be great to get this working!

    Just diagnosed

Hi everyone - I was diagnosed T2 today with an Hb1ac of 98. The dr suggested trying to shift the dial through exercise and diet for the next few months before checking in again. No testing in that time. How much progress can I expect if I stay true to LC in that time?
