    Becoming Disheartned

I have lost 5 stone but my metformin over this time have been increased from 1000 to 2000 a day, that said i am still a very chunky 16 and a half stone and im only 5 foot 7 inch. Luckily my levels are fine but i do have to work at it (walking, swimming etc.), im sure if you stick at it you will...

    Teatment since NHS Reforms Began

I have concluded this nurse is just a random lady wearing a nurses outfit. Because my sugars went belly up i asked if it was ok to have my hba1c done every 3 months. Went in last week and explained i was in for my 3 monthly check. She said you don't need it but agreed to do it. She tried to...

    Colds and blood sugars

Absolutely agree with that :) Concentrate on what is up at the moment and forget about your sugar level as it will be all over place. Just remember your meds and make yourself as comfortable as possible. I also keep some of these in the house http://www.mastersdirect.com/product/37 ...

    Worried about blood pressure

Trouble is we are not all the same, some people have higher BP than others and that's the way it will always be. My doctor loves to remind me that he is in early 50s and has the BP of a 14 year old, thing is if the 14 year old he keeps referring to was me then his BP would be sky high...

Think twice about "Sugar Free" Drinks.

I reckon high fructose corn syrup has more a direct link to diabetes than sweeteners so the people trying to avoid joining our club are between a rock and a hard place.

    Teatment since NHS Reforms Began

Got my latest results today and it is back down to 6.1%, i am over the moon :) FWIW my nurse also seems to have had a change of heart which is great, she knows who i am and what's what when i see her now, she also listens as well now so that's a much nicer relationship.

    Teatment since NHS Reforms Began

I have booked an appointment for my next hba1c and much to my dismay it turns out the nurse i have been seeing is the nurse that specialises in diabetes :(

    Slow Release Metformin

When i was first found out to be T2 i was getting readings of 21mmol/l and i was put on 2x 500mg of Metformin daily and it dropped to under 6mmol/l within a few days. My diet has always just been a normal one albeit avoiding the obvious sugary stuff, this was the advice i was given and TBH my...

    Statins ?

I have not had any side effects taking Simvastatin, every so often i stop taking them just to see if anything changes and it doesn't. My last cholesterol test showed mine at 3.2%, that said it was only 5% when i was diagnosed as T2 6 years ago. My old mum however had terrible trouble with...

    Slow Release Metformin

Like i said i am not having a problem with them, it is like i am not taking metformin at all which is great but my blood sugar isnt recovering fast enough. My morning readings have gone from mid 5s to anything from 7 to 8.5 as well.

    Slow Release Metformin

I cant try others though, i can only have what the surgery provides. In the past i have asked for Glucophage and was told a flat no.

    Teatment since NHS Reforms Began

Thanks for all the replies. I found out a right gem today that came out when handing my prescription in. On a Friday my surgery has a diabetic nurse! You would have thought they would have made all the diabetics that attend the surgery aware of this really lol I'm really hoping she will...

    Slow Release Metformin

I am definitely better with the slow release ones when it comes to discomfort and gastric distress but my blood sugar seems to be taking an age to drop back to normal which i find a little disconcerting, it is taking many hours (maybe 5 or 6 hours) after eating to get back below 6mmol/l, i am...

What a strange word for the profanity filter to block when it is inevitable it is going to be used given the nature of the site LOL

    Teatment since NHS Reforms Began

The nurse just sort of freaked out and doubled my dose with no questions regarding my diet or physical activity. I did a finger prick test yesterday 4 hours after a fairly carby dinner and it was 5mmol/l so i am happy with that.
