    Coming off Metformin

Thanks for the reassurance. I think I need a very strict regime for a few weeks to see what it takes for me to control this without medication. Can then get hba1c and decide if to resume Metformin. I was lucky in that taking it didn't cause me any issues after the first couple of weeks, so...

    Coming off Metformin

Hi, Over the last 2 months I've ceased taking Metformin (was on 1g/day) after keeping hba1c at 39-40 over the last year with low carb and exercise. This is with GP's agreement. At the same time I've broken my arm, had physio, and had pretty disrupted sleep. Diet has been more erratic in timing...

    Back on the horse...

Double cream, mascarpone, nuts, assorted other cheeses. Check first if you need to moderate your protein intake, as that will influence your fat / protein mix.

Latest HBA1C results - time to change

As you say, it could have been worse and now you know you can do again what you've done before. Good luck, you can do it.

    Newbie - Medication Quandary

Meant to add that I started on Metformin, halved the dose after 10 months and will likely stop in the next quarter. I haven't had problems with it (unlike some) but have a general aversion to taking things if I don't need to. When I halved my dose it had no effect on hba1 c (went from 40 to 39).

    Newbie - Medication Quandary

Hello and welcome to the forum. I was diagnosed about a year earlier than you with hba1c in the 90s and have been eating low carb, often keto, for the last 15 months. Normally my first reading of the day is the highest (6.x) but I'm still trying to reduce it. I have found that intermittent...

1 year in, still overwhelmed scared and confused

I'd suggest not focussing on everything, but on smaller improvements. Rather than feeling you're ditching everything, look at a meal, or day, or week at a time and see what you can do to make it a bit better by halving the carbs in a meal, or eliminating sugar from a dessert. With a meter this...

    Diet drinks.

I've found soda water with lime juice or low sugar squash to be good for me. No effect on blood sugar that I've been able to detect, and has replaced the orange juice and lemonade that I used to have.

    DVLA questionnaire

My insurer advises that they only need to be informed of DVLA notifiable conditions https://www.aviva.co.uk/insurance/motor/car-insurance/medical-conditions-and-driving/. I don't see why your licence should be affected from what you've said

    Metformin - BG levels

That is advice that is often given in the NHS. Many on this site and elsewhere will vouch that it is entirely possible to have plenty of energy on a low carb diet, and the "not sustainable" argument seems to me to be saying "don't try low carb diet as you might not keep it up". I have had a very...

    confused about milk carbs

I still have a splash of milk in tea once or twice a day, but drinking glasses of milk don't agree with my blood sugar now. I haven't found a non dairy milk I like, but normally get lactose free milk at less than 3% carbs and pretty much the same taste

Coming up for first diabetes review and seeking advice

Thank you for the advice. I do need a bit more information on how cholesterol numbers have changed over the last year but hopefully can get this alongside recommendations from practice to inform my decision.

Coming up for first diabetes review and seeking advice

Hello, I'm 45 and coming up for my first diabetes review and am considering what I want from it, so though I'd ask some people who have already been down this road. I was diagnosed 10 months ago with an hba1c of 97 (ish - quoted to me as 11.3), put on 2g/day of metformin and 20mg/day...

Covid and Work, Covid Advice and General Chat

That's kind of the issue, there aren't any factors that should raise my risk beyond diabetes. Same for the academic version of the model. It's why I'm suspecting bad data.

Yes, she's said she will review it when she get's the info on why I'm included. She's as much in the dark as I am at the moment. I just wish that the letter or an appendix stated risk factors that influenced this. At least I'd then have something to check.

Doesn't appear to be postcode, as if I leave postcode off of the calculator my probability of death increases, suggesting my location is reducing risk. I'm fully planning on ignoring it completely, but still like to know why. I suspect bad data.

Diabetics added to the shielding list as of today

I had a shielding letter yesterday; have discussed with GP and neither of us understand why. I'm 45, male, type 2 and no other risk factors. According to the academic version of the model my risk of death would be <1 in 7000. Can only assume there's some bad data from somewhere being used. My GP...

Believe that my local surgery opened up appointments to multiple groups at the same time (at least 5 and 6). Makes sense to me to want to maximize use of vaccination slots.

I've just been told that I've been added to the extremely vulnerable list and have no idea why! No risk factors other then well controlled type 2 (Metformin) and being male.
