    CGM inaccurate- beware Abbott Freestyle

Not just for me: Assessment of factors that determine the mean absolute relative difference in flash glucose monitoring with reference to plasma glucose levels in Japanese subjects without diabetes And most of us experience the difference between new and old sensors. I suppose type 1's react...

Found a 2019 study on T2 diabetics in Scotland, guess what percentage were classed as In Remission

The odds ratio's are interesting: Lower HbA1c 1.31 Older age 1.48 Weight loss 4.45 Bariatric surgery 11.9 and <drumrolls> Never taken any glucose-lowering medication 14.6

    CGM inaccurate- beware Abbott Freestyle

Actually that is not even so bad, but you are right the FSL is completely unreliable, especially for type 1’s. In December my HbA1c was 36% higher than predicted. So then I compared it to fingerpricks and it turned out 89% of the measurements were more than 15% off. Recently I did another test...

    Claudication

That is what the guidelines say, based on this study: Exercise Rehabilitation Programs for the Treatment of Claudication Pain “The greatest improvement in pain distances occurred with the following exercise program: duration greater than 30 minutes per session, frequency of at least three...

Found a solution to my foot-on-the-floor!

Hopefully it works then. I did eat some pistachio’s last night and this morning there was very little FOTF effect compared to the days before (with the same sensor), but also FBG was much higher than usual, so may be @HSSS is right. It would be very interesting to test this.

Found a solution to my foot-on-the-floor!

Was that coincedentally after changing sensors?

    Claudication

Ask for a Doppler test and to see a vascular surgeon (if needed). I also have severe claudication (abi < 0.09, which is record low). What I do against it is cycling as much as I can (on an electric bike, which you want/need also) to built collaterals, improve circulation and keep my glucose low...

Libre 2 running out of steam towards the end of 14 days

It is official now: The first 2 days it is about 1.1 mmol/l higher and surprisingly consistent. (the old reader is 5 minutes more behind than the new one, they all run late). It goes up much faster and further and comes down much slower. With one exception; if it comes down from exercise...

Anyone having GAD antibodies disappear completely?

Dead cells don’t regenerate, but new cells are born all the time. When it comes to antibodies this is an interesting view: Bart Roept

    Beta Cell De-Differentiation?

I don’t like the term dedifferentiation either because we don’t know what is happening, some scientists proposed to use the term altered identity instead. There are studies showing high glucose changes the alpha to beta cell ratio, but it is complicated; Dynamic Change of β to α Ratio in Islets...

    curious about carbs

When I lived in the US at some point I became a WSI and was taught when somebody drowns whatever you do do not jump in the water to rescue him. The reason was if something went wrong you might get sued, so they preferred to have people drown. Same with glucose; if you go blind or lose your legs...

Anyone having GAD antibodies disappear completely?

My antibodies have disappeared almost and in September I will know if they have disappeared completely. I assume if they couldn't disappear they wouldn't even test it. You bet it could and it seems vitamin D helps with that.

Physiology of insulin release - know your pancreas

The study in post #16 states: "In some of these studies, alpha cell mass could be calculated and was reported to be decreased by about 45% [16], unchanged [15] or increased by 40–80% [4, 17]." so there is a lot of potential for cherry picking. Nice study, I completely agree with: "there are...

Physiology of insulin release - know your pancreas

“In conclusion, the pancreatic α/β increased after type 2 diabetes onset and correlated with diabetes duration, while relative alpha-cell area correlated with HbA1c.” Human Pancreatic Alpha- to Beta-Cell Area Ratio Increases After Type 2 Diabetes Onset "We observed an eight times increased...

Physiology of insulin release - know your pancreas

The sources are both from biopsy and post mortem and I also have an interesting study that found alpha/beta ratio in type 2 diabetics was exactly twice as high as in those with normal glucose tolerance. And very very important; the alpha/beta ratio correlates with diabetes duration! But this is...

Physiology of insulin release - know your pancreas

"Glucose-induced β-cell electrical activity, recorded with glass microelectrodes, is characterized by trains of fast action potentials (“spikes”). The membrane depolarizes before each train of spikes and then depolarizes. This pattern is termed a “burst.” There is a characteristic biphasic...

Libre 2 running out of steam towards the end of 14 days

On days 13 and 14 the sensor gets almost as inaccurate as it is on the first days. It seems on day 1 and 2 the readings are higher and on day 13 and 14 lower. What happens if you push the power button for 30 seconds?

    Acceptable Post meal spikes

I was diagnosed for LADA in September 2020, but I prefer the term NIRAD, Non-insulin requiring autoimmune diabetes, as it used to be called. According to several studies wether you will need insulin in the future is dependent on GADA titers. You can drastically lower these titers by using 4000...
