Newly diagnosed with very high numbers - confused by symptoms

Hello again, Just thought I'd give another update, to encourage anyone who is diagnosed and nervous. I've been on keto now for four months, and although I have not had another a1c test since diagnosis (really must chase the GP), and I never did get the result of the cpeptide test (I think my...

    Remission target - 5.7% or 6.5% Hba1C

6.5% is really quite high (average 7.8mmol/l, UK equivalent 48). I am around that point after just two and a half months of low carbing from an initial 12.6% (17mmol/l, UK 114). The USA uses 7% as a target, which seems crazy high to me (8.6mmol/l, UK 53). I thought the threshold for remission...

    Rise in blood sugar

Also, as I recently found out, something as simple as a change of soap when cleaning hands before a rest can throw the numbers off. Some new "Pears" menthol soap knocked my numbers up by over a point - fixed by more thorough removal of the soap residue. I coupled this with a change of strips...

Have I messed up here? (Going too fast?)

I wasn't able to get through to the doctors today and will try again tomorrow. I have been thinking the same thing re the carbs but my experiment this evening did not go well. A tin of supermarket brand minestrone soup, a mere 25g of carbs, spiked me from a baseline of 8.0 to 11.4 two hours...

Have I messed up here? (Going too fast?)

No, in fact I'm going to the toilet less and experiencing little thirst. I am probably going to be dragged into hospital here aren't I?

Have I messed up here? (Going too fast?)

Thanks, yeah I've not heard anything re the tests and the GP actually wanted me to go in for an a1c a couple of weeks back which would suggest they've heard nothing as a1c was ticked on the test sheet at the hospital. I will have a word.

Have I messed up here? (Going too fast?)

As some of you will know about three months ago I was diagnosed with T2, my hba1c was 114. Since then I have lost three stone, my blood sugars are now hovering in the 7s most of the time and I have been feeling better. Essentially no carbs ingested. However this last week things have gone...

Newly diagnosed with very high numbers - confused by symptoms

An update - my numbers are really starting to come down now - seeing more and more 7s, one-third are at that level over the last couple of weeks and over the last few days make up the majority of readings, so I believe this is actually "pre-diabetic" level now (although this will in part be the...

Newly diagnosed with very high numbers - confused by symptoms

That's a very good idea actually, next time this happens I will grab a block of cheese or make myself an omelette or something, thanks!

Newly diagnosed with very high numbers - confused by symptoms

Had another of those little "episodes" that I now know are almost certainly false hypos last night, although I now know not to worry about them. Went to bed early, in the middle of the night had a nightmare where I couldn't breathe properly, work up in a cold sweat with nausea, heart racing...

T2: Does anyone have experience of leg pain/tingling

Oddly, I have found that I get tingles in the feet when my blood glucose level is at its lowest (in the 7s now) - when it's at the highest level for me currently (in the low 9s) the tingling subsides. I think it's a reaction to either the metformin working, or the blood sugar change (as opposed...

The speed at which you can lower BG

Not yet. I gave the blood sample two weeks ago today so it surely can't be long now :)

The speed at which you can lower BG

Thanks. Funnily enough I have done just that over the last couple of weeks (a couple of 48 hour fasts plus OMAD) , and am down in the 7s/8s now, so I am finally starting to see results! Yet to see a 6.x but I'm sure it'll come.

Thoughts on the sd code free?

I'm not entirely convinced the GlucoNavii is all that accurate either. All my meters (the GN, a couple of different types of Sinocare, Glucorx HCT ) do give essentially the same readings but the GN is definitely the one that seems least consistent. It's usually predictable but I do get some...

Feeling sad and confused and anxious

If the numbers are truly averaging 7 then you should (after this average remains for a few months) get an A1c below diabetic level. But it all depends on whether your readings are a true average (which could be subject to your own confirmation bias depending on when and how often you test)...

Feeling sad and confused and anxious

No that's 9.7% (confirmed through multiple sources including app, academic website cited above and a chart present on this website). 8.7% is 11.3mmol/l (apologies I thought you were 8.5 from a comment above OP).

Feeling sad and confused and anxious

I am on Metformin but that is fairly easy to wean off from what I can gather. Metformin only reduces numbers by a couple of points - the rest through diet yes.

Feeling sad and confused and anxious

As I say please be careful when reading the chart that Ronancastled posted. "Dangerous" is too strong a term for an average blood sugar level of 11mmol/l or 200mg/dl IMO. It certainly isn't ideal but you're not going to drop down dead any time soon. Just to put things into perspective, I...

Feeling sad and confused and anxious

I'm not sure that chart is correct (someone with an average bgl of 8.4 is a fair way above being pre-diabetic) ; this converter I believe is accurate though. http://www.ngsp.org/convert1.asp 8.5 % NGSP = 69 mmol/mol IFCC = 197 mg/dL eAG = 11.0 mmol/l eAG It's high but not the end of the...

Newbie a few weeks in - what I wish I’d known at the start!

Yeah it's a funny thing this diabetes lark. So far the only thing I have found that works is fasting... and even then the blood sugars return to high levels after a few days.
