    Loosing my hair

Are you particularly stressed at the moment? Whenever I get incredibly stressed, worn out and "down" in mood, I get hair loss. Sometimes I don't realise how much things are affecting me until I realise my hair is falling out. It gives me a nudge to do something about the cause of stress but is...

FFP3/KN99 masks that do not fog eyeglasses

Unless you've been FIT tested with specific FFP3 masks, you won't know which has a complete seal. If it doesn't have a complete seal then they're only as effective as a standard surgical mask. Regardless of the type of mask, it's very dependant on your own face shape and the mask itself. One...

    Officially Type 2 Diabetic

On UK blood glucose meters, the measurement is mmols and HbA1c is also measured in mmols. So for a HbA1c of 56mmol that would be 7.3% in the old measurements.

    Any experience with ME/CFS?

Just to add, the Spoon Theory is a good way to describe it to people as many think people with ME/CSFS are just "tired".

    Any experience with ME/CFS?

I was diagnosed with ME/CSFS in 2014 after 10 years. There is no diagnostic test; it's a process of elimination and ruling out other possible causes. For me, they did test for Epstein Barr Virus (it will show up in my blood for life, they can't see when you had the virus though i.e 5 years, 10...

Hunger two hours after eating breakfast

Personally my bg is never lower that 4.8mmol and doesn't relate to whether I'm hungry or not. I'm not sure that hunger is related to bg, I think it's more about whether our stomach is empty or whether we're outside of our "usual patterns" of eating. Happy to be corrected! Before low carb I was...

Hypo symptoms but blood sugar is 180 American)

I experienced this when I moved to low carb. For me they were false hypos and from what I've read, can feel just like a real hypo except blood glucose is in a good range or may be high still. Our bodies get used to running at high bg levels and when we reduce that, even though "we" know it's a...

Newly diagnosed as type 2 diabetes

Completely agree. How many more diabetics would achieve remission if the NHS recommended reducing carbs and low carb diets instead of the eat well plate? A lot of people put their trust in their Doctors and that they know what is right. Doctors probably do 95% of the time but they are also...

    Feeling defeated

That horrible feeling of "I did this to myself" is one that I think many of us have felt at one point or another when first diagnosed. The great news is that you can do something about it and being at pre-diabetic levels is a good place to start; you've can turn this around. You can also do so...

Grapefruit and T2 - diet only

I'm not sure that Ardbeg will see your message as their last activity was 5 years ago!

    bit confused

I agree with Antje77, the rise to 11.4 is more than likely the carbs in the bagel. I personally wouldn't be able to eat bread/bagels as it would also raise my bg an unacceptable (to me) amount. I can't see on your profile what type of diabetes you have i.e Type 1 or Type 2 but if you're a Type...

    Cholesterol Numbers

Submit a Subject Access Request for your medical records, which is covered under the Data Protection Act. Your GP surgery will then have 28 calendar days to respond.

Newly diagnosed as type 2 diabetes

After 3 months of low carb, my blood sugars are under control with a hba1c of 36 which is in the non diabetic level. I was diagnosed as type 2 after a HbA1c of 65. Low carb keeps my bloods in the 5's and 6s and has allowed me to lose nearly 3 stone in 5 months. Low carb should help you reduce...

Can I ever say that I no longer have Type 2 Diabetes?

I'm in the initial stage of remission, my three month test showed a HbA1c of non-diabetic and I achieved this with dietary changes. I know however that if I didn't follow a low carb diet then I'd be back up in diabetic figures. For me, remission is dependant on making a change (dietary). As...

    Soft drinks query.

I'm sure I could get used to drinking coffee black with no sweetener but it's not something I currently enjoy. I've tried and I find I end up drinking less during the day and I'm not a good drinker at the best of times. I have found through testing my bloods that I don't get a raise from...

    How diabetic am I?

I believe the UK and US use different numbers which can make things difficult when you're first diagnosed! In the UK, levels below 42mmol is normal (non diabetic), 42mmol to 47mmol is prediabetes, 48 and above is diabetes.

    Yoghurts

I recently came across Alpro Plain No Sugar in Tesco. 0 carbs per 100g and only 42kcal. I sweeten it with a little erythritol and add some Raspberries and chia seeds. Yummy!

    Thank you!

Thank you all, it feels brilliant to be back in control, although I think it will take a while to sink in fully just how much I've turned my health around. While it takes dedication, determination and changing the way you think about food, remission is achievable and I'm one step closer now!

    Thank you!

At the beginning of March, I was diagnosed as type 2 following a HbA1c of 65mmol. I wasn't given any advice other than to go on Diabetes UK and ask questions but I was referred for retinopathy checks and had a foot check as well. Looking online and on this forum, I found a lot of information...

Was ok but now not so sure!!

Unfortunately as a Type 2, most GP surgeries will not give out or prescribe blood monitors. They do for Type 1's but rarely for Type 2's. The majority of us have to buy and fund them ourselves but I would definitely recommend getting one, it puts you so much more in control. There are some very...
