    "Newcastle" Diet

Thanks for the congrats, guys :) I'm not going to lie, it's been a rough few days. I'm still within the calorie count. I don't have anything in the house now to really go off the rails with, and my stomach has shrunk too much to eat a lot of anything, but I made a couple of mistakes. One was...

    "Newcastle" Diet

It's a miracle!!! Ok, the first bit of good news is that I have lost 7.5 pounds this week... yay! The other is that my lowest ever BG is now.... 7.2! If only I hadn't let myself get so dehydrated yesterday, I bet that would be lower. In fact, it would be normal. It's incredible. Down from...

    "Newcastle" Diet

Nicky, that's an awesome achievement! You must be amazingly determined and strong-willed *applauds* I hope that you'll carry on going from strength to strength. So, today I had a shake and made a vegetable curry, which was lovely! My BG is back up to 10.1 today, but I have an idea that's my...

    "Newcastle" Diet

hi Finzi, and thanks for the congrats... I'm well chuffed. I think it's just ordinary metformin looking at the box. I'm only on 500mg/day while I'm doing this diet to see what happens (gp's advice). I'm not sure what the alternatives are, but we might have to look into them if the pain doesn't...

    "Newcastle" Diet

youngmanfrank: That is a weird coincidence! I'm glad your knee finally got better. I'm not sure I can manage 30 lengths (I'm not that strong a swimmer), but I can definitely put the effort in. The embarrassment of turning up in a swimming costume will just have to be borne. *gulps* Dave: I...

Have you had trouble getting test strips?

Viv, I agree with you completely: everyone should be given the option. Some may even choose not to. The choice is the important thing. I assumed the reluctance to prescribe was down to cost, and we talked about that, but my GP said it was negligible and a drop in the ocean in terms of the full...

    "Newcastle" Diet

Morning all :) youngmanfrank: Thank you so much for the encouragement and for sharing your experience. In the days to come I'll be looking back at your post here time and again, and it'll help me ignore the temptation to cheat on myself. Although I added the fish yesterday, I am keeping...

    "Newcastle" Diet

After some thought about protein, today for breakfast I had half a can of John West Mackerel Fillets in natural water without brine. Later, for tea, I'll have more of the soup I made the other night. BG reading: 9.7 Frances x

Have you had trouble getting test strips?

Viv, after seeing a GP who didn't know me and refused me strips, I finally got to see my usual GP (he's very popular!) and he prescribed me test strips. He did say that knowing me so well (over years and years), he was confident that knowing my readings would motivate me to keep to a lifestyle...

    "Newcastle" Diet

Ughh... went back to bed for a bit as my energy levels have fallen back to depressed levels. Someone shoved a leaflet through the door, and my dogs jumped off the bed and started barking. I wished they wouldn't so I could go back to my dream, and I never want to go back to my dreams... but this...

    personal question. please answer

Nicola, I've had thrush too, and have had to take a few courses of flucanozole (over a few days). My GP says it is more than likely a direct result of my poor BG. I haven't had any attacks since diagnosis though, when my BG has been very slowly but steadily coming down. Frances x

    "Newcastle" Diet

Thanks, Finzi :) I have been really buoyed up by the weight loss. Since I've only been doing this diet 3 days, I think the weight loss is more likely due to cutting out carbs last week. Hopefully, it will continue. Last night, I had my first moment of feeling that I was "giving up" something...

Did your mother have gestational diabetes?

Hey all, I was just researching this as my mother has told me since my diagnosis that she had bad gestational diabetes when she was pregnant with both me and my brother. It seems like there is some evidence that this can lead to diabetes for the children in later life as well as childhood...

    "Newcastle" Diet

Saw my usual GP today, who is brilliant and is quite happy to supervise me on this diet. Also he will prescribe me strips until my blood sugar is under control to my satisfaction. He also weighed me, and I have lost over half a stone in a week and a half. Good stuff! :)

    "Newcastle" Diet

Well! After the bland veg from yesterday I wasn't really in the mood for more of the same, so I made a couple of the soup recipes to try. The mushroom and the tomato (though I added a bit of onion and black pepper to the tomato one). Wow! Nice... I really recommend those soups, even if you're...

    "Newcastle" Diet

Thanks, guys :) Things have ended up going a bit haywire today. Shortly after I posted, my mother needed an ambulance for gallstone pain, and I've been at the hospital since. Just got back and have made myself a shake. Going to make the mushroom soup for later on from the diet sheet. BG...

    "Newcastle" Diet

Hmmm.... So.... Hardly slept. Got off at around 4.30 and woke up at 7.30. No headache. Got the familiar slow burning hunger that I haven't felt for ages, but it feels kind of nice, and I don't feel like eating. If it continues, I'll force myself to have a shake in about an hour. No real...

    "Newcastle" Diet

HI, and thanks for the link. I found a load of useful information there :) UPDATE: Today has gone well, I think. Stuck to the plan, even though the vegetables were really bland from out of the steamer, and the Uncle Ben rice is nowhere near as tasty as Savoury Rice (which is my rice of choice...
