    3 months of pumping

I have success used my pump for three months now! A few issues before I had started had seen my hba1c jump up to 7.7% which I wasn't thrilled about so I knew I needed to work hard! I'm now going 2-3 weeks between hypos which is great! I'm more relaxed when doing things because I know my basal...

    Honeymoon period

1 years since diagnosis is fast approaching. Apart from a few blips my honeymoon period is showing no sign of ending. It has not been particularly erratic, I know the carb threshold at which my pancreas will kick in alongside the injected insulin and so I can account for it and avoid most of the...

    IOB app

Is there an app that can help estimate IOB? I'm sick of guess work, particularly at bed time "5.8, but bolus was 3 hours ok so still *some* IOB..... So small snack? Maybe medium just to be safe...." Etc is getting on my nerves! Blogging at drivendiabetic.wordpress.com

    New Blog

Most of you will have seen I've started a new blog about my diabetes. I love this forum and the discussions here, but sometimes you just want to talk about yourself and get things off your chest. Today's post was a shout out to this forum and how it's helped me. I've named some individuals but...

    Ratio advice

I think my lunch ratio could be wrong but I'm not sure! Monday 7.1 before 10.6 after..... But 5.5 by dinner Tuesday 5.7 before 7.9 after.... 9.7 dinner (10g sometimes in between) Today 6.8 before and 12.6 afterwards I'm on a 0.5u per 6g currently. Should I change that to a 1:1 do you think...

    Ketones

I'm just curious as to what level of ketones is considered something to worry about? I'm ill and currently have ketones of 0.2. When I was diagnosed it was 0.9 and no one was overly worried so I know I don't need to be concerned now, but just so I know for if it rises! BG was high for a few...

    Illness

I have a cold and am feeling very grumpy about it! BG is all over the shop. I'm applying dafne's sick day rules which is sometimes working.... Sometimes not lol more than trebled my insulin intake but halved by carb intake. Hoping it's just the cold and not the end of the honeymoon too! Sent...

    A Christmas Safety Moment

A Christmas Message With Xmas upon us I would like to share a personal experience with my friends about drinking and driving. As you may know some of us have been known to have brushes with the authorities from time to time on the way home after a "social session" out with friends. Well two...

    Sleep apnea

Who has it? I'm being sent to the sleep clinic but I'm not convinced I have it. The epsworth sleepiness scale is a but wishy-washy really! And it's common in Middle Aged over weight men..... I'm 24 slim and female! Feel like going to this sleep clinic is wasting everyone's time

    Hypo Onset Speed

Pretty rough night last night. 10.00pm, bed time. Tested BG and 4.8, a touch low so I had a Jaffacake (9g). Brushed teeth, sorted dog, Usual things. 10.20pm, getting into bed. Felt extremely anxious which is a common hypo symptom for me. Thought there's no way I'm hypo as I just tested and...

    Insulin injection

I have to share this because it was so bizarre! Last night I took my Novorapid as usual... Or at least I tried to! Dialled up 3 units and popped it in my stomach. I wanted the usual 10 seconds or so the pulled the needle out. My insulin then came shooting out in a mini stream from my stomach...

    World Diabetes Day

I read a blog this morning that summed things up nicely for today. Thought I would share a bit with you: "Today we ask for a little awareness. We want people to know what diabetes is, the difference between Type 1 and Type 2, and how it affects all of us, globally. We want people to know that...

    BG Rising

I took my insulin at 6pm with my dinner. BG was 4 at the time so I knocked a half unit off the dose to compensate. Off to bed at 11.15, BG 12.6..... Thought I'd grossly miscalculated dinner so took 1u correction. I'm not a fan of corrections at bedtime so set my alarm for now (2am) and BG is...
