Skipping nova rapid if you have low BS and a fairly low carb meal

Hi Type1Bri I was diagnosed T1 just about two years ago, and I had the same issue with unacceptable lows (just short of hypos) in mid to late mornings. I would say definitely speak to your DN about it. Mine was very helpful, and after a few adjustments, we agreed on changing the ratio for...

    Quick Question

I came out of hospital clutching a sharps bin that no-one seemed to want to have anything to do with. I googled my local council, and it turned out that they had a collection service. I needed to register with them - I think I needed some proof from the diabetic clinic - but once that was done...

    4mm needles black listed

Good point, hale - I should have said that most days I only inject Novorapid once, so that's why 300 needles will last quite a long time. I do go through them more rapidly when I'm on holiday and eating more, but even then it's only two needles a day (rarely need an injection at breakfast)...

    4mm needles black listed

Good to know that the BD 4mm needles are still being prescribed. It does seem a case of badgering the surgery if the needles have been changed, but personaly I've given up for the moment and bought some from the Diabetes.co.uk online shop. Just over £50 for three boxes (VAT-free), and these...

    4mm needles black listed

Hi. My prescription for the BD 4mm needles was changed to 5mm last year. I submitted the detals of the BD 4mm needles to the GP surgery, but received Gluco-RX 4mm needles instead. These do not seem to be of the same quality as the BD needles, and they are also 0.01 thicker. The BD 4mm...

    Lantus and hypos

Hi. I don't know if this well help, but when I was first diagnosed, I was getting too low for comfort every morning - not actual hypos, and nthing like you're suffering, but just too low to operate normally. The advice from the diabetes specialist was to reduce the ratio of Novorapid for...

    Insulin On Board (IOB)

I haven't done a DAFNE course, but I do see what you mean, Spiker. Personally, I wouldn't have that many snacks, but I must admit I don't want to bolus for just one finger of KitKat in mid morning - it's not needle phobia, but more that my basal insulin can deal with it until the next meal...

    Insulin On Board (IOB)

Hi. I'm on MDI and was told not to bolus for any snack up to 10g carbs. Any rise in bg would show up in the bg reading for the next meal and be corrected then. I use the Accu-chek Aviva Expert meter, which works out how much insulin to take for my meal, according to how much I'm planning to...

No insulin at breakfast or Lunch.

Hi, same here regarding breakfast and lunch. T1 diagnosed about 18 months ago - carb counting almost straightaway, using the Accu-Chek Expert Meter. Initially found bg levels dropping too much in the mornings, so on the advice of the DSN, I reduced the breakfast ratio down to the present level...

    Fatigue and BG control

Hi, I had a busy time in the first half of March - not work-rlated but taking part in music competitions, which was reasonably stressful. Increased activity with practice and so on. Levels are usually 5 - 7, but increased to 6 - 8 with the odd 9 during the three weeks. After the last event at...

    Lucentis injections

Hi, glad the injection went well. You should see some improvement in now. I'm just back at work following the second injection last Friday. This time was a little different - instead of just drops for the anaesthetic, the consultant injected it direct into the eye (possibly twice). Hence at...

    Lucentis injections

The slight improvement was the day after the injection. The vision issues were not huge beforehand; the Lucentis leaflet talks about improving difficulties in reading/driving etc, but my eye had not got to that stage, and hopefully it sounds as if yours are not there either! I thnk as...

    Lucentis injections

Hi Lianne13 Sorry to learn this; it's not the news you want to hear at all. I'm type 1, and I've just started a course of Lucentis in my right eye (diabetic macular oedema). Initial results are favourable. Clarity and colour have been largely restored to the vision in that eye, and the...

And now I know why I was feeling like ****!

Hi Tsukasa73 Diabetes crept up on me in 2012. Just extreme tiredness (normal for late 50s and working!) and one or two vague, non-specific symptoms that I now recognise but didn't then, despite web searches. Also weight loss, but who worries about that! Anyhow, DKA arived after a few days...

Three years T1 and already retinopathy

Hi SHL - I'm sorry to hear of your retinopathy. Sorry, but it can be in both eyes, if my experience is anything to go by. My story - diagnosed T1 in October 2012 at the age of 57. Since then, HBA1c has come down from 11.4 at diagnosis, 7.4 in Aprl 2013 ad 6.8 in October 2013 - so...

Would you prefer to be on insulin injections or on a pump?

Re: Would you prefer to be on insulin injections or on a pum I'm happy to stay with injections, as I'm achieving reasonable control on MDI. Carb counting started two weeks after diagnosis (October 2012) and so far there's been minimal weight gain. It would be nice not to have to wave a bright...

Do you tell people you have diabetes?

Family knew from the start of diagnosis (October 2012 with Type 1). Managers and certain colleagues at work know because I was hospitalised with DKA coma at the time of diagnosis and off work for four weeks. I am 57 and don't have a problem telling people socially or at work, but it's now on a...

How old were you when you were diagnosed?

Diagnosed with Type 1 in October 2012 at the age of 56.
