    My Wife Refuses Insulin

Hi, I have been exactly where your wife is, and can totally understand. I was in denial for so long, allowed my blood sugars to run so high, and ended up with two toes amputated, 9 months apart, and a silent heart attack, which required a stent. I never wanted to take insulin, hated taking...

    Unexplained Hypos!

I have been having 10 units Novorapid with each meal, and am eating exactly the same things that I have eaten for months, with the same level of work /exercise, and have found my readings to always be consistent, with the odd lower reading if I have been extra busy, or had a less carby meal than...

    Unexplained Hypos!

Help, knowledgeable people! I have recently started to experience unexplained hypos from late morning through to early evening. My insulin doses are the same, the type and amount of food I am eating is the same, and my work/lifestyle is the same, but I can drop from 6.8 to 3.2 in half an hour...

Anonymous Question Is my flatulence to do with diabetes?

Been reading these posts, laughing with clenched buttocks (Type 2, insulin dependent, no Metformin, multiple trumpets all day, every day) and can't help wondering, what did 2Christine do with her first husband? I get the impression that he may still be with us, if not with her, but why would...

    Pain and tingling in toes

to Bramhall - I can empathise with your pain, as, although younger than you (58) I felt every bit of 100, with the pain that I suffered through neuropathy. I say suffered, because I think it is now under control! The symptoms are still there, and if I don't take my medication, the pain comes...

    Terminal and Scared

Hi Kevin, and all of the other people following this thread. I am sure everyone understands and will be as patient as you need. After reading your post, and all the replies, and messages, I have taken a long hard look at my attitudes to diabetes and the problems it has caused me and my family. I...

    Terminal and Scared

Hi Kevin, I have only just read your post, as I have been trying to cope with my own demons recently. I feel as though you are a kindred spirit, as I am enduring multiple conditions at present, mostly caused by diabetes, and my lack of control for 14 years. I had tried to lower my bgs...

    More amputation?

Updates on the survival process! I am back home now, eventually came out on 15/10/13, and feel much better. Saw my podiatrist today, and the toe seems to be responding well. It is ulcerated but has clean edges which are (apparently) a good sign, and is a much healthier colour than previously. I...

    More amputation?

Hi All, Another little scare last night, just before bed, started peeing blood big time, with no warning or pain. Continued through the night, so worried sick - is there anything else that can go wrong?! Anyway, after an ultrasound this am, and a CT scan this pm. they concluded that it was...

    More amputation?

Hi Hanadr, My bgs are a bit variable at the moment, (still in hospital, toe is struggling) but when I had the first toe amputated, my HbAic was 135  then 2 months later, after starting insulin, I had brought it down to 72, and now, as of last week, it is 48! and my bg averages...

Can I Claim for Any Benefits

Geocacher, I think that implying akindrat18 has no morals is totally out of order. He only asked for advice from the members of this Forum, and at no time suggested that he wanted to defraud the system. He appears to be trying hard to find work, and needs good constructive advice as to how...

    More amputation?

Thanks all, age doesn't come alone, does it? And to whompa73, this 58yr old woman is loving being called a Dude! I've been called some things in my life, but this is a first, and my daughters says I am now officially "Dench" whatever that is!!! lmao

    More amputation?

Firstly thanks for all your suggestions, and good wishes, and sorry I haven't been able to post a reply before. My doc managed to get me into the vascular clinic at the hospital, so I went with some fear, as the toe had definitely got worse. When I arrived, I was clerked in by a med student, who...

    More amputation?

I feel like I'm hitting my head against a brick wall! I had my left big toe amputated in May, because I had ignored my diabetes for years, and had incredibly high sugar levels, which resulted in an infection which escalated rapidly. I was then started on insulin, and brought down my bgs to a...

    Funny hypo moments (in retrospect)

Not a funny story, but I woke from a nap feeling hypo, and was 1.9, (scary) but drank some very nice strawberry smoothie, and had an ice cream, (it was an incredibly hot afternoon) which soon put me back to normal. Sometimes a hypo is a really good excuse for a treat! :)

    Leg pain

I will google this as soon as I have finished posting. I have had this pain now in my lower body for 4 weeks, and it seems different to the neuropathy I was originally getting. I cannot get comfortable, as it hurts so much when I am sitting or lying down, that I am not getting any sleep. I am so...

Why does my Urine smell like TCP?

Sorry if this one puts you off your breakfast, but I have noticed on several occasions now that my urine smells really odd, rather like TCP. It is not cloudy, and I don't get the usual UTI symptoms, but I have been getting a lot of pain in my lower body and legs, like a dull ache that is...

    DAFNE course

Thanks everyone. I will ask about the courses, as I am struggling to work out how to adjust my food intake. Still haven't seen a dietician despite weekly emails from the surgery for 3 months. My Bgs are steadier now, between 7 & 8 most days, but I need to fine-tune to reduce further, and am...
