    Something a little light hearted...

I was perusing Reddit's /r/diabetes earlier when i saw someone making the point that BG results are just data points, not a "score" for how well you're doing. My immediate thought was "can't it be both?". So being an avid PC gamer I immediately thought of Steam's in-game achievements. Here's...

So a type 1 diabetic walks into...

A homoeopathic practitioners office. Upon being offered numerous herbal solutions for their poor control the diabetic pulls out what looks like a glucose monitor and says to the practitioner, "I think we need to check your B.S levels". The practitioner replies, slightly bemused "Why would I have...

    Lantus pens

I know we all like jumping on Lantus from a great height, but I recall a strange issue from my time with it: The lower dose pens that max'd out at at about 40 had awful mechanisms that frequently jammed. The higher dose pens were the best thing since sliced bread, and put most Novo disposable...

    Omelettes

What do you put in yours? C'mon, we all know they're nice "free" snacks when you're feeling peckish.

    I'm back baby

Sup. I found my way back. Managed to drop a whole 'nother % point at my last HbA1c reading. Huzzah for me. Granted that was over six months but hey, improvement is improvement. :P Edit: how many hot (female) 20-somethings do we have here now? I'm just askin. :o

    Travel Insurance

So what's this nonsense all about? I'm going away next month, and while trying to get travel insurance that would cover things like jet skiing, was promptly told said insurance company wanted a £20 premium because I was diabetic and was on blood pressure tablets. :o lionrampant does not...

    Am I mad? (Insulin debate)

I've been reading. Lots. And that's never a good idea when it comes to diabetes. You start to question the efficacy of your treatment, and the safety of it. I've been reading about animal insulins (i.e. pork). Currently as you may have gathered from other threads I'm on NovoRapid and Levemir...

    Lasers and Eyes...

Just got my right eye done - wasn't a problem at all. The most annoying part was waiting for the drops to kick in. And the gentlemen who did my treatment had a rather cute optician with him (she might have been training or some such). 8)

    Flying and security

Hi folks, I'm getting sick fed up paying my Doctor £15 a go to write letters justifying taking my insulin and BG machine on-board flights (in this oh so scary-but-really-just-paranoid-world we're in right now). So has anyone just taken prescription, or something else? I swear I'm going to get...

    Stirfrys

Who makes 'em, what do you add that's carb-free, etc, and what's the spiciest thing you've ever added? And has anyone ever eaten a habanero chilli?

    Hey whatever happened to...

That lad who was type 2 and had the son who was type 1? I recall posting in a few of his threads, and given the dire advice he was getting (like the son could drink coca cola all day long), I was wondering if he still posted here? :)

Experiencing epic fail (or put another way, eye question)

Well, I finally got a letter I hoped never to get. "...there have been diabetic changes to your eye(s). ... eye clinic to see a specialist eye doctor". So anyone else been told to attend said doctor and then been told "you'll be fine"? P.S. Hi, I'm back.

    Wine, women, and blood sugars...

Well, maybe not the women: The other day I was at my friend's flat celebrating a business deal. I drank three hefty glasses of wine, and never went to bed till about 3.30am. I woke up the next morning at 8am... and felt fantastic. It was the best I'd felt in the morning for absolutely ages...

    Energy and Posture

This is going to seem a little out there but bear with me: Have you ever noticed that due to the often messed up energy levels that we have, you slouch a lot? i.e. you're so tired you can't stand straight? I have, for quite a while, and it really seems to have messed up my posture. I slouch by...

    Of Booze and this country

This isn't necessarily diabetes related but I need to rant anyway. We're always hearing how much of a problem our nation has with alcohol. Scotland especially so. Crisis this, crisis that. I was in ASDA today. They were selling, wait for it... SMART PRICE Whisky. Other than the fact...

    Portable, self contained meters

Anyone know of portable meters that contain test strips (like the Compact Plus drum) and integrated lancet? Preferably something that would fit in a gentleman's suit pocket. I'm fed up guestimating my BG when I'm out for dinner.

    Gah!

Muffed it this evening. Miscalculated my dinner time injection and I'm now 15. :x Brb, 8 hour walk. :o Feel free to rant in here in my absence.
