Very low carb for 10 years

After reading Dr Bernstein’s’ Diabetic Solution’ I started following it 10 years ago (diagnosed T1 10.3 years ago). Not looked back. It works. My HbA1c over these 10 years have never been over 5.7% (38). My health has been good. My gums better than they were 20 years ago. If you haven’t read it...

How long have you been ketogenic

How long have you been on a low carb high fat diet? Or a ketogenic diet? I have been very low carb high fat for 6 years. Typically less than 25g carb per day. I think I have been ketogenic for all of those 6 years, but not 100%sure as don’t test. I am stronger, fitter, healthier now than I was...

Keto diet helps prevent flu infection

The daily mail reports that a Low-carb diet may boost immunity. My wife has been ill with flu for four weeks now, so far I have not caught it. I am, and have been, ketogenic for around 5 years. Both of us have had the flu jab!. Has anyone else ketogenic experienced evidence of this. The mail...

One hour cycling lowers my BG levels by 10% to 20%

I started to do some cycling a few weeks back. Pleasantly surprised to find that if I go out for a one hour cycle my BG levels fall by 10% to 20%. If I cycle for two hours they fall much the same, maybe a little closer to 20%. If I cycle for half an hour I get a fall of around 5% to 10%. By 10%...

    Is T1 diabetes preventable?

Everyone says it is is not. My diabeetes consultant Dr said there was nothing you could have done to prevent it... It just happens. But.... My experience over the last few months makes me think differently. In that I am 100% sure that if I had been on a LCHF diet 2 years ago I would not be...

    High fat... Improved cholesterol

My latest cholesterol test shows that my HDL level is great and that my ratio has improved on my last cholesterol test, which sort of is amazing since my last test was done around a year ago shortly after my diabetic diagnosis when I was on a 'very healthy' low fat diet (but unintentionally...

    Supermarket Low carb coleslaw

Tesco everyday value coleslaw contains just 3.5g /100g of carbs, at around 40p per carton. Most supermarket coleslaws are around 6g carb, with many even more, costing over a pound. Anyone found a supermarket coleslaw with less than 3.5g carbs? Strange, I never really liked coleslaw before...

    Testing strips when LADA

I have been refused any more testing strips on the NHS, by our local pct diabetic nurse. Reason being, I am not on insulin and not on meds and have very good BG levels. I have been getting 100 per month. I use more than 100 but buy a top up from eBay occasionally. Anyone else had problems...

    Blood donations and BG levels

Do they routinely check BG levels when donating blood? I ask because I regularly gave blood before diagnosis 10 months ago. Last time donation was about a year beforehand.... No indications of diabetes beforehand. Would they have told me if I had highish BG levels? Diagnosed T2 in sept...

Anyone following Dr Bernstein diabetic solution

I am contemplating following Dr Bernstein's diabetic solution, and wondering if there are any other following it. I am already on a LcHf, but what really draws me to his diet plan is the necessity to get fasting BG levels and HbA1c down to around 4.8, in order to eliminate diabetic...

    Frequent peeing and blood sugars

I have recently noticed a connection between frequent peeing and moderately high blood sugars, eg. * if I have to get up once for a pee during the night, my pre breakfast BG reading is between 5.5 and 6.5 * if I have to get up twice for a pee during the night my pre breakfast BG reading is...

Anyone feel that they are healthier, fitter and likely live longer because of diabetes.

I ask the question because I believe Dr Bernstein is 80 years old today, diagnosed T1 aged 12, mentioned in his book that at a school reunion he felt he was the 2nd healthiest person in attendance and that he probably owes his good health to his LcHf diet, which had he not been diabetic he...

    Beer and Lower B.Sugar Readings

Does anyone else find their blood sugar levels lower when drinking a pint or 1/2 pint of beer (bitter / ale or Guinness) with food? I test my BS one hour after eating, and they are consistently around 1mmol/L lower than when I do not have a beer. 2 beers and I am a couple of mmol/L higher...
