Do I test if I am 'post diabetic'?

Thanks andbreath, I can live without sweets and cakes, puddings and pasta too, but i'd love to be able to eat bread, potatoes and rice. I'm just low carbing at the mo, not watching the calories too closely as low carbing seems to mean i'm not eating a huge amount of high calorie stuff anyway...

Do I test if I am 'post diabetic'?

Slightly off topic-ish, but Kyran, you are also now within normal levels without medication and can eat "normal" food? What did you do to achieve this? Was it also massive weight loss and the newcastle diet like Pipp? Anyone else fall into this category of not needing meds and being able to...

    Blood testing

Could try your thumbs :-) Seriously though, back of hand or forearm would prob be my next go to place after digits? Maybe try one of these and your finger and see if they give similar results. Having said that, when I tested several different fingers, for science, i found they all gave...

http://www.livestrong.com/article/288832-caffeine-in-green-tea-vs-coffee/ says it's a 1/3 of the amount in coffee here

Interesting, how much would you give for 3 weeks of extra healthy life. If you're at the end of your life, possibly quite a bit.

    Blood testing

Hi M8, maybe you need to set the puncture depth to a lesser depth if you can. You don't need much blood, maybe you are jabbing yourself too deep. Hope this helps

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

I had the milkshake at 7 though. Apparently coffee can raise BG so i think i'm going to give green tea a go. Apparently that can low bg and is generally very good for you.

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Now 5.6 at 11am (2 hours 15 mins after last test of 5.8). Would have expected it to be lower. Only thing i've had is a normal coffee with a little milk straight after testing at 8:45. Besides that just water. I think i might cut out the morning coffee and see what happens.

Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

5.3 today before brekie, slightly lower than the usual 5.5. Though a disappointing 5.8 1 hr 45 mins later. Had a meal replacement shake for breakfast which is 160-200 cals and about 15 grams carb off the top of my head.

    Fasting test & levels

Hi Sanguine, Thanks for the reply. I'm much more cheerful and less stressed now. It just takes time to get over that sort of thing and having the joy of my new son and the despair of my fathers death was a bit of an overload but time has helped and my son is amazing. Now i see my dad in him...

Resistant Starch: How do you eat yours?

Thanks both, I think I might try it stirred into a meal replacement shake I have for breakfast. It might be most palatable that way. Cblake, http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bobs-Red-Mill-Potato-Unmodified/dp/B0013JOKBC/ref=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AKRBDGJN4LXWJ that is the stuff they seem to recommend .

Do I test if I am 'post diabetic'?

Just to add my tuppence. Pipp, top drawer, keep it up. Forget the labels you've done amazingly well. Also, 6.8 two hours after eating some bad stuff to my mind is non-diabetic levels. Yesterday me and my wife had the exact same lunch for science. It was a white baguette with sausage and bacon...

Trying the Newcastle Diet and its working.

Try 200 calories of non-starchy veg, broccoli, cauliflower and trimmed beans...you'd be surprised just how much 200 cals of that stuff is. It'll fill you up. :D Also mushrooms, low carb, very very low calorie. A stir fries can be good too.:) I think that its recommended that you eat 200 cals...

Resistant Starch: How do you eat yours?

Hi Indy, thanks for the comment. I did wonder what that search function was for ;). I found a few discussions about the pros and people posting helpful links to potato starch products but little mention of how they actually would go about consuming it. Maybe i've overlooked it. Do i mix it...

Resistant Starch: How do you eat yours?

I've been reading about the benefits of resistant starch on BG levels and am thinking about giving it a go to see if it makes any difference to mine. Has anyone who is already trying this got any advice on the best way to consume this stuff? I read 40g a day in two servings is best but how to...

    Fasting test & levels

Thanks for your replies, its not really the whole story. Sorry for the wall of text, I was diagnosed at the beginning of January this year. I was incredibly thirsty all the time, drinking water by the pint. I have always eaten alot, particularly bread and potatoes. I'm overweight, was more so...

    Fasting test & levels

Hi, I wondered if someone could offer some insight into a fasting test and how bad certain levels of BG is. I test myself in the morning, i haven't eaten for at least 8 hours before, actually closer to 12 hours as we normally have dinner around 6.30. I'm aware of something called morning...
