Advised to reuse lances? Is that right?

I reuse until it hurts or I get a strange reading. Life is too short to change it every use.

    metformin and alcohol

I've had no problems having a drink or two with metformin, but then I've never had any of the side effects other people have. In fact, I find my morning glucose is lower after a couple glasses of red.

How many eggs do you eat per week?

I usually have between 12 and 20 each week. They are quick and easy to cook and set me up for the day. I try to vary it, scrambled, poached, part of a fry up, omelette, eggy bread, using up left overs in the oven etc. It helps that we have 11 egg producers outside our back door. Poached...

    Different results from 2 meters

Late reply, but I've had a similar problem. I had a free style optimum for several years but it was changed to a one touch vario. When I was changing over I did several weeks of using both meters with the same drop of blood and there is a significant difference. In the end I did a comparison...

    Variability in morning readings

Thanks for this reply. Yes, I have taken into account the meter error readings and this happens quite a few times with instant repeat readings giving the same number. The drop is often over 1.0 in an hour, and there seems to be no pattern to the appearance of the high readings. A carb filled...

diabetes two and obesity rates did not change in the same way over the decades

According to the chart, there was no obesity before 1975 Seems to be idiots producing charts without thinking what they show

    Soft drinks sugar free

I haven't had a sugary soft drink since diagnosis. I find colas and Irn Bru far too sweet, but get cans of diet or no added sugar drinks (which are much cheaper than the brand names anyway) or the 2 litre bottles - Supermarket own brand. Fruit juice needs looking at carefully to see how much...

    Variability in morning readings

I was wondering what the normal range of fasting readings people get is, and how it can vary. The reason is that this morning, at about 6.45 my reading was 8.4, which is the highest for several months. At 7.30 I took it again and it was a much more reasonable 6.6. The only difference was...

    Holiday insurance

Not sure whether it's the right forum, but I'm trying to get annual holiday insurance that will cover my T2 diabetes and nor cost an arm or a leg. Needs to cover Europe including Cyprus and some reasonable activities. I'm more interested in the quality of the insurance than cutting corners...

    Breakfast

I do an omelette as well. Electric cooker so switch on, start ironing my shirt while kettle is on, then beat up a couple of eggs, grate some cheese and chuck in the (non stick) pan while I make the tea. Shirt ironed, tea made and omelette ready in minutes!

    Breakfast

During the week I usually have a couple of eggs, either fried (about 1/4-1/2 teaspoon olive oil) or in an omelette. Sometimes I add cheese as well. Almost no carbs unless I have some toast as well, which is rare. Any left over meat can be added in as well, like cold sausages or sliced ham...

    Isomalt and sucralose

In sugar free sweets the sugar content is 0%, but carbohydrates are about 90%, comprising glucides and the contents call them isomalt and sucralose. Isn't sucralose a type of sugar and is that where the 200+kcal come from per 100g. Getting confused about how many I can eat (apart from the...

    Oh my, what a nuiscance

That looks very American. I assume craft beers are real ales and light ale is nasty fizzy rubbish. The advice about counting alcohol as a carb choice seems superfluous to normal people, and to suggest you avoid driving after drinking is so 70s

    Sugar free sweets

M&S seems to have a new range of sugar free sweets. They are really nice, but have unfortunate side effects (similar to Aqua Drops, more commonly known as aqua plops). Is there a sugar free sweet anywhere that doesn't have this effect? Unfortunately 6 sweets have a noticeable effect, but I...

    Strange fasting readings

First time I've posted on here, but I had some weird readings today and wondered if anyone had had the same experience. I've been testing since late June, always in the morning before breakfast and the readings are usually in the 5-7 range, averaging monthly about 6.2. I've had 2 days recently...
