    Putting your GP on trial

Thanks for sharing your opinions with me. To return to the main topic, this thread wouldn't have materialized had there not been wide-spread experience with patient displeasure of the medical profession. It is a topic on this forum (a lot, in fact) because it is a subject that touches all of...

    Putting your GP on trial

A medical professional's positive and genuinely concerned attitude is often the precursor to healing, and can precipitate such, as far as I'm concerned. Having to demand that they at least show respect, empathy and concern -- even superficially---- is very stressful while one is ill. If medical...

    Putting your GP on trial

My mother died (not DB -related) due to an inaccurate diagnosis. I did not sue for various reasons, but, whatever skepticism I had held at that time of the medical profession this tragedy reinforced a trillion-fold. I think the entire medical profession should be held accountable and...

New finding on possible cause of both Type 1 and Type 2

Thanks for this info. It supports the body of knowledge we already have of the role that destroyed beta cells play in DB 1 and 2.

Does insulin cause weightgain in Type2 ?

Hope something works out for you, Disheartened. I've been battling weight-gain since pre-adolesence (decades ago), and now that I am deemed "diabetic", I know I must keep the weight down. I don't use insulin, but, I've noticed that diabetes is common in people who are prone to weight-gain, in...

Does insulin cause weightgain in Type2 ?

I have never used insulin and I control my T2D with LCHF diet. All I know is that EVERYTHING I've ever used to remedy pain and illness, either OTC or RX , always causes weight gain, even ibuprofen, so I would be reluctant to use insulin if I had to. Just my 2 pence. ;-)

    advice needed please

Welcome, Confused Pat:) I know, for me, when I am having symptoms from other medical issues my BG is harder to control. hence, causing the frustration of sometimes never knowing what is causing what. I would suggest that you follow the best diet/Rx to control your blood sugar and then try to...

    advice needed please

 Glad you are feeling better. In fact, when I have hay fever and/or flu, or, anything that forces my my immune system to work hard, my BG readings are always higher. I am sure to double up on all of BG reduction concoctions when I am ill. I would be careful of the honey, though, if you...

    advice needed please

Hi, Angel :) ------- Adding spices like cinnamon and ginger to your general diet might help control your BG, at least it does for me. Sometimes I make a separate, strong brew out of these spices to help control spikes, along with adding them to food and coffee. This levels off my BG esp. when I...

    Coconut oil

I haven't missed a day of using coconut oil since I discovered that it helps to keep my GI tract in good working order, so we're talking about 1 and 1/2 years. Now I also use it as a source of fat to lower my BG. I usually have it 1:1 ratio with teaspoons of ground flax, or, sometimes in a warm...

    always tired

Around the time I was diagnosed with T2 DB I could fall asleep standing up, especially after meals. In general esp. for those of us in early healing stages of DB I think its a good idea to rest, relax and get as much sleep as possible. Of course, this mode will eventually have to be balanced...

    always tired

:grumpy: cor blimey, my "favorite" topic, tiredness, lol. Like other posters have mentioned, there could be a multitude of reasons for fatigue, some related, some not, to diabetes, but,, I am starting to get some energy back now that my BG numbers are more stable. I can you that the times that...

    Diagnosed today :(

Yes, LCHF eating plans automatically helps you to reduce weight, something I am currently delightfully enjoying. Regarding how certain foods will spike your BG, I've learned that the STARCH content is just as important to find out as the carbs and straight-out forms of sugar. Btw, "industrial"...

    Diagnosed today :(

:) Oh my, if you think this is the only kind of food that you can eat I can see why you might feel blue. Check out the recipe section on this site, and the recipe threads on the forum. I eat like a porker and all kinds of good stuff. Just staying away from (high) carbs and other forms of...

Pour the unhappiness out / From your too bitter heart / Which grieving will not sweeten

So true about worry and stress. Cortisol in the blood-stream, caused by stress, is a precursor to many problems . I try to do something on a daily basis to keep the stress down, and also allow the natural "feel-good" chemistry to occur. Music, spirituality, beauty, laughter, etc. helps the body...

Pour the unhappiness out / From your too bitter heart / Which grieving will not sweeten

Thanks for the good wishes, Touchett. I actually currently live in the Upper Midwestern part of the States, which is much worse, weather-wise. So, this has been an especially rough winter for me. I look forward to moving back to the East Coast, though, because at least there the salty sea-air...

Pour the unhappiness out / From your too bitter heart / Which grieving will not sweeten

:DI am still somewhat "obsessed" with taking my BG readings, although I'm in my third month after diagnosis, and I know that many other members here are doing the same. Here's the latest news on my foot neuropathy, which I have. The neurologist gave me a series of EMG diagnostic tests and said...

    Diagnosed today :(

:joyful:Welcome to the Forum, Shelly! Like most of the posters here I think that the meter is very useful. I've learned what spikes my blood glucose by using the meter, and I can't imagine any knowledge being more important than that for us. Even though my GP said she only wants to see the...

    Exercise and going hyper afterwards

Thanks, and yes, it could what you say, regarding the scale not showing any loss. That makes sense. I have to stop the free weights for a while because I over-stressed one of my shoulders. I'll probably just walk a few miles a week for now, as the ice and snow are melting. The...

Dec 2014 update: New research on the Low Carb Diet in general practice

Yep, there are many people who don't know that starch IS sugar. Many people think that sugar is only the white/brown granules you use in coffee, and don't know how many hidden forms sugar can take in modern society. it is endless. Also, I was just reminded again, in a book I am reading, that...
